Has anyone owned or driven a 2005/6 shape impreza sti? the one after the horrible bug eye (no offence if you have one its a personal thing) I know its a different car altogether than the supra but was wondering how it compares in terms of acceleration and how it drives etc. I really like the interior with the blue black suede buckets, Iv sat in one and it seems a nice place to be :) just wondering on personal opinions really. Thanks

Their bottom ends especially the big end bearings are prone to fail, don't get me wrong though, they are mean machines when they are actually working!

Oh, and if you really have to get one, make sure it's had a very recent cambelt change and check the oil pump as it's pretty inadequite for the job if I'm honest! Lol

i now have a baby boy as of thursday gone and finding it difficult with the supra. the pram doesnt fit and i also have a dog. i do have a civic mb6 as a run about but i cant really use the supra anymore, well not comfortably anyway. we go to scotland from newcastle often visiting family and usually take the supra but it wont do the job now :( you dont mind squeezing in to go ouy locally but for 180 miles its a no go. a newish impreza was the only fun practical car i could think of within the value of the supra

I only like the P1 I think the newer ones looks like a kids toy and a bit cheap, plus lots of chav's own them! Though I would still love to own a P1..! I've also heard from several sources that they are prone to pop when tunned up...!

How about a R35...! lol family tested by jurgen..! lol

A recent cambelt change is just general advice as any car with some miles on it it's just good maintenance.

The bottom end is known to be a week point with people trying to extract big power from them. Stock afaik they are reliable

I have a bugeye :D and I actually like it :p PPP STi.

In standard form all the newage ones are pretty similar, IE. WRX v WRX and STi v STi. You may need to look at the differences between the 2.0l and 2.5l versions....... mines 2.0l.

The standing start and low gear acceleration is very good! Not very good compared to a supra rolling from 80+. The mechanical grip is brilliant and having 4 doors is great. Oh and being able to drive through a pothole without having to fetch parts of the bumper is GREAT!!

No issues engine wise and its nearly on 70k miles... For everything I have read, the STi engines are pretty strong, until silly mods are added. Standard STi engine is good for up 420-440. Will run out of turbo at about 340-350, TMIC runs out at around 400. 420-440 is relatively easy to achieve.... which is roughly the limit for remapping the standard ECU...

I had a shot of my mates sti and it is quick but not refined,i was looking to buy one but after the test drive decided against it.I disagree about reliability, except for the P1 which seems prone to engine destruction. My mate drives his hard but has had no problems:)nice lookin sup you have:D

Do you have any idea how long it takes to change a bloody cambelt on one of those boxers?!

My friend is a subaru mechanic and he's always complaining about how the engines are just a really cheap imitation of a Porsche boxer engine!!

whats needed to achieve 350bhp with one of these. i take it they are still reliable at that power level and not likely to blow up lol

Not entirely sure on the 06 model and how different the turbos are on the 2.0l vs 2.5l

But for my car, a decat exhaust, fuel pump, induction kit and a remap should give me 340-350.

I am aiming for the 400bhp mark and to get there...

fuel system (fuel pump, fpr, 660cc injectors)

induction kit

decat exhaust

turbo

remap

I also plan to put mine on the track, so need to add in a swirl pot to protect from fuel surge.
