Brake pedal at the floor!

Hi everyone,

Just got into work this morning and when i pushed my brake pedal it sank all the way to the floor, it still stopped just about but i've never had anything like this happen before and was wondering if anyone knew why this might happen. It's a 98 Escort so it's got nothing flash on it like ABS... I'm obviously not going to drive it till it's sorted, but i need some ideas of what i'm looking for when i get the mechanic here.

Thanks for any help.

Ben.

Go out to the car at lunchtime and see if theres any drips of brake fluid under the car, if there is it might give you an idea as to where its leaking from, it could be a burst pipe, caliper seals, master cylinder failed etc

Check the wheels too, if its got rear drums it might no be immedietly obvious

The rears look like their drums so it could also be a leaking brake cylinder which is inside the brake drum and wont be very obvious.

Thanks guys,

It does have drums at the back so i'll get them checked as i have never messed around with them. Come to think of it a while back i was getting a scraping noise from the back but it went away again so i just carried on as normal.

Thanks again for your help,

Ben
