Chinook landed next door.

WOW!

Just tinkering with the Supra this afternoon and I heard the unmistakable "whoop whoop whoop" sound of a Chinook helicopter approaching. As the noise got louder and louder I stopped working, looked up, expecting to see it fly overhead, but it didn't! The helicopter was hiding right behind some tall fur trees besides my house. As the helicopter descended the trees started whipping wildly in the wind and this enormous dust clout swept across our house and garden. I ran around to the other side of the fence to see this huge helicopter landing. The winchman signaled me to stay back and the beast just settled down on the ground in an area not much bigger than itself. Just a few meters infact! Really impressive piloting skills.

A road worker in a fluorescent jacket jogged upto a guy hanging off the side and exchanged words. A few moments later the rotors started beating down on the ground and the ship was airborne again.

After the dust had settled i walked up to the road worker and asked what was going on. He said he was lost and wanted directions to Welbeck Defence College, just down the road LOL.

I guess even pilots get lost!

Pretty amazing sight.

Just a shame i didn't have a phone with me to take some video.

:)

How very random. But amazing. :D

I really didn't think you could stop anywhere in a Helicopter (especially a Chinook) to ask for directions.

If you were working on your Supra, you should have had your camera in hand. :D

To be honest, I didn't.

Maybe the Army have special permission.

I know the Air Ambulance can land anywhere within reason.

And changing batteries on a Supra isn't really note worthy enough for pics

The Army dont operate Chinooks mate ;) You should see them in Afghan, when they come to refuel they come caning in, stick it on its arse while simultaniously spinning the aircraft 180 degrees and landing, all in one move, impressive :)

hell yeah, i've been stood on the back of one when they've done that in afghan - its awesome!
