If it screws it i'm probably best ordering another EMU as opposed to Ryan's other units as at least i can just upload the map and the wiring setup is all there already. Plus there is no way a solaris will be purchased, setup and mapped in time for pod, especially with Ryan away. The gasket in between the first and second decat looked in bad shape so i ordered one from CW and changed it while this misfire was going on. The internal diameter of the new gasket was 2 1/2 " and needed to be 3 " so i've order another one, but fitted this one anyway to see if it cured the blowing as it still made a good seal, just small on the inside. Its still blowing from somewhere. You can only hear it when lightly touching on and off the throttle. From underneath it sounds as though it is coming from nearer the top of the first decat, in the engine bay its from the turbo, manifold and decat area, which are all wrapped Tried to get a video but it wouldnt help explain. Never known one come loose but you never know.....might be worth checking since it's right in that area at the top of the downpipe, what with all the expansion and contraction going on daily? Probably that top joint, I'd say. The tiniest leak can cause misfiring and a big loss of power, I know that much, after owning so many rustbuckets! I've never used one but a mechanic's Stethescope might be helpful, to home-in on the leak or just dip the engine in a bucket of water like you do with a punctured inner tube!? Seriously though, it may help to pour water over the piping, very carefully and when quite cool, to check for bubbles, then let it heat up to dry out when you're done. How about wrapping it with clingfilm when cold and watching to see if it blisters or blows through anywhere? Just thoughts! Can't stop the damned things! Think it will need to go somewhere to get it checked. A 3 inch gasket should be with you in the morning. If it's a decat pipe blowing at the turbo elbow make sure the studs in the elbow are not ^running out of threads" before the nuts load up the pipe flange against the cast elbow, sometimes you need 3 or so washers under the nuts. Make sure pipe and elbow are totally smooth and free of muck, and just use a smear of exhaust assembly pates as a sealing medium. Can't believe all those legs of that IC could come off and the chip fall off, sure it isn't one that got left inside when it was made? Bizarre, very bizarre, I could understand one coming out of a socket, but all pins coming un-soldered is surreal Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Stonkin Posted July 6, 2010 Author Share Posted July 6, 2010 Thanks Chris. I couldnt believe it either when i opened up the emanage, it was just laying on the top of the circuit board. The numbers on the chip matched the numbers on the board where it should have been. Started first time last night with no misfiring what so ever after soldering it back on. I was just gutted to hear there was still a blowing from somewhere. Thanks for the new gasket, it needed replacing anyway as the old one was quite sooty where it must have had a slight leak. This is a bummer as ive been waiting for weeks (as has Heckler) to send him all my dash bits to do the led conversion on, which includes the ignition ring. I'm gona pack up these parts to send him tonight but until they are back am i right in thinking i cannot start the car to try and find the leak. Is it the whole ignition part i send him?
