monsween
Can anyone recommend me a welding setup. Looking to do odd bits and bobs and get learning. Ideally one that i can use for car repairs in the future (project cars not the supra ) So basically one that'll last me a while and ideal for my skills/work If you can point it out on Machinemart i may be able to get it Im not sure what im after, MIG, TIG, ARC etc
JustGav
A small baby mig welder, I've got a proper gas bottle rather than the halfrauds mini bottles, but they do work. Get plenty of scrap metal and practice. The art to good weld is in the prep.
monsween
Yea i can get heaps of scrap metal from work to bugger about with, gas aint an issue either, my dad always finds them in work http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/pro-90-mig-welder/path/diy-mig-welders
barneybrendan
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/151te-turbo-mig-welder/path/diy-mig-welders this was the first welder i bought new and is still going strong after hundreds of hours work,if you have the money then i would recomend the kempi 180 minarc mig which is what i use now. i wouldnt get too small a machine as the rating isnt up to much. barneybrendan
linner? Sorry i'm very new to this and going to start reading up once i get it the welding wire feeds up through the liner, this is plastic so best change it to a metal one as soon as you get it,they are only a fiew pounds and easy to change.the problem with the plastic one is the wire can pierce it if theres a kink ect then its a pain in the ass. not much point in reading up best to trial and error.Get some thickish metal to start with the practice and slowly use thinner metal. You will get used to the machine without getting stressed blowing hole in the metal. monsween
I can maybe get discount through my work with this lot.... http://www.gibbtools.co.uk/PDF/POWER%20TOOLS/WELDERS.pdf Thats the welder sheet. I was looking at (page 240) the Migmate 130 or 130DP. Is it worth getting the dual purpose gasless one or is the gas one more than enough?
