THOR Racing
There are loads of posts like this in the archives. Please search these as well. But the bulbs are standard 9006 and 9005 for the dipped and main beam. You may find you'll have to shave off a little of the plastic to get them to fit but you can pick these up at any motor factor. Jap vs UK Spec Bulbs click down to headlamps. regards Pete
Steve W
PETE, as I just explained to "B" in an e-mail, the HIGH BEAM UK is very similar to the JAP (just trimming of the 3 tags to fit) BUT, the UK dip has a much bigger 'round-bit' (the 'seal' base ?) than the Jap... both the High/Low JAP bulbs have same size base. the UK DIP base is bigger than the UK HIGH base ! ? ! SO, you can't fit the UK dip to a JAP without MAJOR agg' (I've tried ! !) You're Photos are of UK/JAP HIGH-BEAM bulbs. [ I was going to try a UK high-beam in the JAP dip ? ? the bulbs are exactly same shape, but the dips are a fraction lower wattage - so what - but BOTH the dip bulbs coated on the tip in black 'paint'.....might this be to stop light going FORWARDS and ruining the DIP pattern ? ? ? both the high-beam bulbs are clear - as in your photo ] Either me or "B" will be trying this soon -maybe "B" sooner ? ? (I AM that lazy bugger ! !) FatS.
C4 SUP
I have fitted the Philips "Blue Vision"main beam bulbs in the dip holders with no problems. You have to cut of the 2 spigots in the bulb connector which i did with a stanley knife, 2 minute job. You do`nt even have to modify the locating lugs. So, go to it!! Steve W
SOUNDS GOOD m8... Have you checked the 'dip' pattern - ie. up-against-a-wall to see if the 'cut-off' is still about right ? ? FatS.
banaman69
hi C$ sup please let me know how you over came the problem of the different size sealing ring of the jap and the uk bulb.i know you can modify the locating plug.but the problem is the different size rings, the jap appears to be smaller diameter than the uk bulb. C4 SUP
Hi- Banaman69. (Where do people get their call signs from!! Mines my reg. number. Anyway, to answer your question, simple use the same bulbs for main beam and dip (HB3). This is the smaller diameter sealing ring and fits right in. I spoke to Powerbulbs where I got mine from and they said some cars have the same bulbs in both, and they certainly appear to be ok to me. Supra Pilot
C4 cup Have you noticed a difference with these new bulbs(blue vision things)? This is one hate I have for the Supra, 'the lights are shite!!!' I am no way paying £400 odd quid to upgrade to the 'HID' set up or what ever they are called, that is a rip off (IMO)........... If someone has found a cheaper solution here I am sure not just me would be interested. If no one has found a set of bulbs etc to work, give a better beam and be brighter, that will be a project I will try next myself......cause it is a pain especially when doing numbers..... Mark Ayling
I replaced all my bulbs with the H*lfords "Laser Blue" jobbies and, although they're obviously nothing like HID, they do give a "cleaner", whiter light and look a lot better than the standard yellow! Supra Pilot
Thanks Mark, so you have noticed a definite improvement over the standard set up then? Not interested about how it looks, just want to be able to 'SEE' on unlit roads! Dom
Mark Ayling
Yep, a definite improvement - but don't get me wrong, its not massive, just "a bit better" HTH
C4 SUP
I agree with Mark ie. the "Blue Vision" bulbs are better than standard, but can never be likened to HID set up. Halfords sell this type of bulb but try powerbulbs.com, they are cheaper!! Regards Ian
Steve W
Powerbulbs also do the 'RALLYE' 100w version of the 9005's ! I may try those in the MAIN-beam and just the blue-y ones in the dip. I can GUARANTEE that 100w will be brighter than 60/65w blue-y bulbs ! ! ( as Phil said, the only down-sides to high-wattage bulbs are:- a) they're illegal.......YEAH RIGHT, so ultra-bright HIDs are legal and SLIGHTLY brighter 100w halogens aren't ??!! and b) they run quite a bit hotter than 60w so if too near glass ie. in the dip/or/fog they MAY be too close to the 'lens' - but in the MAIN beam there is no lens ! ) Must try to see if I can get them 'trade'.....£13 each is getting a bit steep ! Fat-miser-S.
