HadeS
As above. Does any one got one for sell? How are they worth? Who is the man who can have one?
JustGav
Difficult to find this day, them pesky kids who burn their tyres going sideways seem to have them all
supramkivcork
driftworks.com I'd say would be a reasonable bet . mkiiisupra.net also maybe ?

HadeS
Ive got one but I wont part with it unless I get enough cash to buy a 6 speed lol I would need it in next 5 weeks is that enough time?
Swampy442
If you want to pay 6 speed money for a 5 speed box Ill wait all year Im only kidding you, sorry
HadeS
Well after reading I might stick with w58 as it might last for my 1jz.
Swampy442
Depends on your power plans mate, if stock power is all youre after it will be fine
HadeS
I have got plans for full bpu so 3" exhaust, boost of 1.2 bar, boost controllers and whole rest of good staff. 440cc injectors and gearbox oil cooler. Should be all good.
Swampy442
Think you will be on the limits of a W58 mate... Search eBay for breaking Supras, fire people questions and see what happens. Avoid DriftWorks, you pay a hefty drift tax
bignum
Littlenum is running w58 on his with no problems so far but its luck of the drawer if you got a good 1.

Swampy442
Aah yeah but its not a torque monster yet Just from what Ive heard, if youre gonna ramp the power/torque up the box will be the first thing to go.
HadeS
It's mainly the torque whats killing the gear box right? So in my logic if w58 can suport (ish) 2jz bpu then it will have no problem with 1jz as it has less torque - am I right?
Swampy442
I dont know if there is a safe level as such, but if you put 350hp and associated torques through a box designed to take 200 only bad things can happen.... Cant say fairer than that really
HadeS
I'll have a look, if w58 will not last for long then I'll put some money on r154
dcarrter21
my w58 is still going. sounds a little worse for ware but hasnt broke yet. i think mine will blow at suprapod!
ray007
i had a 2jzgte with a w58 and plenty mods, HKS fcon pro ecu, walbro 255, double decat, boost controller, Autobhan FMIC with hard pipe,k&n induction HKS ssqv, etc etc and the w58 held up fine with an uprated clutch! j_jza80
In the words of Chris Wilson: "torque kills gearboxes, not power" I should think a w58 would be ok for a 1jz on stock tubbies, maybe even a very small single.
Swampy442
Torque and shock loadings like traffic light GPs and drag starts.
little num
Hey all, im pushing my 1JZ full BPU and running over 1.2 (to see what the turbo's will hold) and been doing burn outs and drifting all on the W58 so far so good, sounds as good as the day i got the car, im doing suprapod so will see how we get on there. Also running a 6 paddle clutch that is very snatchy and hard to drive so more load on the box, i might be getting a R154 from a soarer yet as a spare for when it does go.
