womble
Typical, within two days of the temprature droping to something more akin to that of the antartic my heater decides to all but pack in. I know the cars had radweld in it at some point and suspect some sort of partial blockage most likely in the matrix as there is a slight amount of heat coming through into the car and only one of the pipes coming to the matrix is hot (the other's luke warm). Having read the nightmare story of John Beckwiths regarding swapping his matrix (15-20 hrs !!), does anyone know of an easy way / product to flush mine clean ?.:flame Dev (how I want to feel again !). Alex
Mine's not the hottest...I'll try to find it but could you place a link to the thread about it....
womble
Hell fire Alex !, and I thought I had problems with my heater !. Just to update things I'm going to be flushing out my matrix tonight with rad flush. I'll let people know how it goes.
Steve W
On most older/normal cars you can reverse the flow through the matrix, just by swapping the inlet/outlet pipes round.... this sometimes 'pushes' some of the crud back out (still into the SYSTEM though). It's NOT as good as using a flushing liquid (but then they CAN be a bit fierce sometimes !) and, NOT as good as power flushing with hoses etc. AND - DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO IT ON NEWER/SUPRAs anyway ? ! ? REMEMBER.....IF THE SYSTEM HAS HAD RADWELD IN IT, THE FLUSHING SOLUTION, OR 'FLUSHING-OUT' MAY FIND THE ORIGINAL 'LEAKS' ALL OVER AGAIN ! ! so keep an eye on the whole system after using ANY of the methods ! ! Guest Terry S
As you say typical. I have a problem with mine that has me a little baffled. The thing constantly pumps out cold air. At first I thought it was an air lock but I have put 1000 miles on her now & still no dice. The pipes into the Matrix are hot (if not boiling) but it still pumps out freezing cold air. Matt Harwood very kindly checked all the connections( electrical) behind the dash whilst installing my stereo ( great job BTW Matt) & everything was OK. The controls work OK on auto & the AC works fine, but as soon as you set the temp above 20 on the dial the fan switches off. If you set it manually & turn it to say 30 it just pumps out freezing air. Any thoughts guys?? The only thing that was changed at the same time as the single turbo was a TRD thermostat, but this opens a little earlier. The cars temperature stays fine at around 85c & it's not loosing water so the Matrix is OK.
Terminator
Terry. It sounds like one of your air flow servos or flaps has jammed in the cool air position. Or the heater ecu may be getting a duff signal form the in cabin sensor. Do you have any air-conditioning error codes?
womble
Terry, sounds very similar to the problem I had with mine, both pipes (to and from the matrix) had hot water in them but a partial blockage in the matrix itself was severley restricting the flow of water through it resulting in a cool core temprature. Try removing the pipes and blowing in the opposite direction to the regular flow (cheers Steve W), when I did this on mine at first there was a lot of resistance which gradually got less and less. I then flushed the matrix out with rad flush (reverse flow again), a whole load of s**t came out and there was then hardly any resistance to flow at all. Job done and heating restored to it's former (and excellent) glory.
Alex
I think Womble and I have/had the same issue...just one of us is more lazy in the cold weather! I must get out there and blast the debris out of my matrix...
Andrew Dunk Shaw
Had my full service on car yesterday and got the heater fixed, just flushed it through with water and hey presto

Guest Terry S
I was thinking the same lying in bed last night ( sad bastard I know:( ). We use stuff call One shot at work. That should do it as long as I flush it for 1 hour before connecting it back up!

We use stuff call One shot at work. That should do it as long as I flush it for 1 hour before connecting it back up! Both hoses to matrix off, funnel in one, fill matrix with water, adapter on an air gun, 20 PSI airline pressure, a few puffs through it in reverse flow direction, redo about 10 times, garden hose on one side, reverse flow for an hour. Usually works...
Guest Terry S
Cheers Chris. I will try that first, although I stuck the pressure washer on it again, seems a little better but not totally cured. Alex, you can get one shot in any plumbing shop. Disconnect both sides of the Matrix, connect a hose to one end with a funnel a few feet above the car & gravity feed the one shot into the Matrix. Make sure you flush well before reconnection though. Either that or wait for me to try it
