supra-ireland
Hi all. I'm going to have a go at getting the car up to BPU. Some of the work's done already but there is a bit left to do. I'll post my intentions so hopefully people can tell me if I'm going wrong anywhere or have misunderstood something. I'm going to try to do as much of the work myself as possible. The car's jSpec BTW and I've got 400BHP as a target, I'm not sure how realistic this is? The car's fully decatted and has a NUR-spec exhaust, I've fitted a 1.2 bar restrictor ring. I had Hybrids but they failed, I've now got standard ceramic jSpecs. From what I've read there doesn't seem to be much advantage in using Hybrids so I'll stick with the decent jSpecs which I've got. I've already got a HKS FMIC installed. I'm going to fit 550cc injectors. I've got an Apexi S-AFC I'm going to fit it myself and was thinking I'd get it set up professionally after I fit the bigger injectors. I think I'll fit a Walbro fuel pump as well. I'm not sure if there's a Fuel Cut Defender fitted. I think the previous owner said there was one fitted but I'm not 100%. Where would it have been installed? That's it really, let me know if I'm overlooking anything. All going well, I'll get the work done, get the AF setup and then get in dynoed by an independent 3rd party. SimonT
The Fuel Cut Defender will be fitted next to the ECU which is under the passenger footwell just lift the carpet up and unscrew the cover and you'll see it wired in or not as the case may be
fuldhat
You dont need 550c injectors for BPU. The stock 440c are fine.

You dont need 550c injectors for BPU. The stock 440c are fine. Would there be no benefit in fitting 550s? I thought the 440s would struggle on higher boost, even with the stock turbos. If I don't chance the injectors then there's hardly much point fitting a Walbro fuel pump is there?
CanisLupus
If you still have the first pump it's wise to fit a walbro or a new EU/UK Spec one. Also the J Spec Pump does not support Full BPU as far as i remember.
brettjones
i only have the stock injectors and have had no problems on the last dyno i hit 434.3bhp
CanisLupus
With the Jspec pump or the 440 injectors?
supra-ireland
Good advice lads. Think I'll go get a Walbro and forget about the 550cc injectors. I must upgrade the plugs too, NGK BCPR7ES are recommended.
wrenlea
I use Denso Iridium - IK22 and they seem really good
CanisLupus
Got the BKR7E. Smooth running even at 1.2 bar
scotty71
The J spec fuel pump does support BPU but it is suggested to get a new one and a new fuel filter too, mainly as the pump might be old and the fuel filter slightly clogged etc Edited June 23, 2010 by scotty71 (see edit history)
Ricky49
Are you a mate of NOS.
supra-ireland
Are you a mate of NOS. No, met him once and he kept going on about granny shifting and double clutching. I didn't have a clue what he was on about. Good advice. Looks like I only have to buy a new fuel pump and a set of plugs. No point buying and fitting a load of parts unnecessarily. I'll fit the S-AFC seeing as I have it here. Can it realisitally be of much use when dealing with a BPU setup?
mwilkinson
My car is BPU and it made 408bhp on the dyno, but was running lean on second turbo. That was with my stock old j-spec pump and 440 injectors. On the advise of members I have upgraded the pump to a new bosch 044. Obviously I cant see the advantage but hopefully should eliminate and chance of a pump failure or reduced pressure. My next step is to maximise what I have by either going all out and getting a S6 standalone ecu or one of the AEM FIC's both supplied by Ryan G. If I got the s6 it would be with the intention of going single turbo. Personally I would get a 1 bar restrictor ring and buy a boost controller to turn it up to 1.2 bar. Restrictor rings are a little hit and miss and vary in what they do from car to car.
supra-ireland
Yeah, I'm going to order a new pump, they're relatively cheap. I'm using a restrictor ring I got off Chris Wilson, it's been working fine since I fitted it a year ago. I'd be looking at getting a boost controller right enough, what one do you have? I don't know if there'd be much benefit in me getting a ecu upgrade. Do you think it would make much performance gains on my limited mods?
