Map sensor breaking

How comon is it for the mapsensor to break down? Got problems with too much fuel when not using the turbos! Could changing the mapsensor be the solution?

Thinking that it must be either this or the fuel pressure regulator.

If its a problem off-boost there may be a chance its the O2 sensor(s).

You really need to get someone better than me to get involved but I'm nearly sure that the sensors only play a part in the fuelling at tick-over and low revs and then the system goes into some kind of open loop for the rest of it.

But seriously mate I could be a million miles off the mark as I don't even have a turbo!

Someone is bound to come along and have some real advice for you.

Re 02 sensors, they only come into play on part throttle, closed throttle=closed loop, open throttle=open loop. I think.

How do you know youve got too much fuel, AFRs low?

When problem appears there is massive black smoke comin out at the back! Wideband messurements shows too much fuel!

Could have a small boost leak? (I know you said off boost)

I had a small crack in one of my boost pipes going to my boost gauge and the car over fuelled like mad and gradually got so bad that I had error 34 manifest itself

I´ll have to check this! Tnx

It's only at WOT that the ECU goes open loop and ignores the O2 sensor.

Mmm, it also responds to rapid throttle delta's not, necessarily just WOT. So jabbing it halfway down quickly will knock it out of closed loop.

It also comes out above 4000rpm anyway, so cruising at 105mph is much more fuel efficient than 115mph ;)

My theory for the moment is the fuel pressure regulator! If thats faulty it can´t send the fuel back to the tank, and so it stay in the fuelrail and gets pressed in to the cylinder!? I might be way of here!
