Scott
Really good episode, although I reckon Hammond, Cruise and Diaz's driving was faked. At first I thought that. With Hammond I think the race was real but some of the action shots were later added with a professional driver, to splice in for entertainment value. With Cruise and Diaz, Cruise especially, you have to understand how much driving the pair have done. And I mean white knuckle driving, not namby pamby prius coasting. Do you honestly think Cruise went there without any previous track experience? He has been taught by some of the best IMO, Diaz won't be far off it either. Couple that in with the fact they weigh 4 stone in total and you have a pretty nimble track weight. Cruise wasn't going to be anywhere near as fast as he was until that last corner, I honestly think he gained a second with the flukey kick he got at the end of it (just as the car went onto 2 wheels). Supralad
Yea i dont think its faked. You hear them say they do there own stunts, how much driving experience do you think they have had? Loads.. i mean Cruise can fly planes and hes got a custom tailered bike ffs... i think they both know how to drive and the times showed it. johnny g
I honestly think he gained a second with the flukey kick he got at the end of it (just as the car went onto 2 wheels). For what he gained in the cutting of the corner, he lost in hesitation and acceleration to the line...
AndrewOW
Really good episode, although I reckon Hammond, Cruise and Diaz's driving was faked. I think the whole programme was faked. I doubt any of it happened at all, bar from some smoke, mirrors and a few empty egg boxes.
garethr
Andy Wilman was interviewed on Chris Evans's programme this morning. He insisted that the Diaz/Cruise times were genuine. He also pointed out that Cruise rides bikes and flies a Mustang... and, as I understand it, a WW2 fighter in comparison to a Cessna is like a F1 car compared to a Fiesta. He also said that the Senna piece will be repeated tonight, then will never be shown again, get the recorder programmed if you want to watch it in the future. johnny g
I've got the episode on HD from a torrent if anyone wants a copy
plus1
You will only see the Senna tribute again tonight as good old Bernie gets a lot of wedge for replays of old F1 footage, hence why the programs on BBC3 are only 45 minuets long.
Matt H
None of Hammond's race was real. There wasn't even a track, just some 'cool' places to show the vehicles running through. I doubt they would even let hammond drive such an expensive piece of kit through trees like that when it must taken someone a long time to be able to drive on snow like that. Wez
If it was a real race the snowmobiles would have won by a clear mile.
Matt H
With TG, they don't even make it look realistic (not complaining mind) - all this unreal stuff going on, and then a photo finish. It happens every single time they do a race. It's never been real. For starters, they probably only have one or two cameras to shoot the entire 'race'. For example, shows like Hollyoaks use only 1 camera. For every different camera angle in a scene, they shoot it again. If there are 4 different camera angles, the scene gets shot 4 times and patched together; it can make continuity hard. There have been examples in the past where TG has fallen foul. One such example was mud on the ‘reasonably priced’ car disappearing between camera angles.

RiceRocket
Unless he's never driven a stick shift I reckon Cruise would top the leaderboard. Well done you Barring a couple of the specials that was the best episode from Top Gear since the rebirth. Spot the mistake!

imi
Think it was Imi Indeed - the guy was and is a legend - the best the world has ever seen - as a driver and as a general ambassador for the sport and for his people. well on paper is was what, an extra 6mph wasnt it? But on the test didnt they get it up to 276mph? Cant remember now, but i think the increase was around 15mph. If i was a russian billionaire obviously id buy the new one, even if it was £600k more for like 15mph Wasn't it 267mph....still supremely impressive... Scott
I think it was 268mph that was achieved.
RedM
I think it was 267.9mph.

creative
Years ago Top Gear themselves admitted this, they said they run the races for real, then go back and re-shoot many, many passing shots. they also said they do design them so they are deliberately close anyway. Finally got to see the 3 wheeler prog tonight. Me and the missus laughed all the way through that episode.... sucks being over here!... but I'm sure the beach makes up for it. AndrewOW
I loved the new Ferrari 458. Which is quite something, as I don't normally like them on principle. The British sports car feature was a little depressing considering it was the last in the series, but Lotus seem to be doing alright, don't they, unless they aren't a British company anymore, either? Dnk
Not the best program and it seems a great car to Clarkson is one you can throw sideways. The British sportscar feature wasn't great either and again just shows up the 3 of them for beng just a bit immature, or if its down to the producers setting the challenges then they really need to try harder. Poor end to a mostly poor series.

tbourner
I thought the British sportscar bit was quite good, obviously there was the normal sarcasm surrounding it, but their final thoughts on how emotive it all is regardless of the reliability etc seemed honest enough, especially the thing about people not longing for an old XR3i but they do long for an old TVR or Lotus. AndrewOW
I thought the anagram bit was funny though.
