Whitesupraboy2
Well it was meant to be quick and simple...no chain either side! The sellers solicitor was useless beyond belief, mine went on holiday and still did more whilst she was away then the seller's solicitor. Managed to get a 3 bed house in nice street / Area I already knew, brand new bathroom wet room and Modern Kitchen. 40 - 50ft garden and 24ft long kitchen, driveway for 2 - 3 cars. I feel very lucky to get it, was sure any day the seller would pull out for more money. Needs modernisation, as everything other then the kitchen / bathroom is dated but nothing some TLC and DIY wont solve. Finally exchanged on friday and seller said we could have the keys over weekend to clean so Kitchen all done and the conservatory all cleaned. I think i'll stick up some pics as I go. The garden is seriously overgrown....napalm is needed. Im trying to compose a list of things I need to do with the Girlfriend soon after completing; * Telephone (BT gonna charge £127 as they said needs new line ) * Broadband * Inform current energy suppliers...then switch * Council tax * Water board * TV license It cant be that simple what else am i missing?? Whitesupraboy2
thanks for the clear up by the first 3 replies Cheers Guigsy hadnt even thought of the car bits. The house isnt as bad as yours was by sounds of it. kitchen ,1 bedroom and bathroom, rest want to touch up or have work done. Hobgoblin
Try and haggle the BT connection charge. We did this successfully when we bought our house, on the grounds that there was a line into it at some point in the past.

Lounge only has 2 double socket plug sockets in general it was fine. just had a load of people walking arround it trecking mud into the carpets during viewings. the carpets themselves after a good pro clean came up like new. Last time i moved house i did it all myself with a van, did the decorating etc. this time although i could have done it myself i was SO glad just to pay the money and let the movers, decorators, cleaners etc all do it Movers were great. even paid them to pack up everything! and as an added bonus offered to house our cats in a cattery for a day for free (as it happenes the bosses wife runs one... which is the one we usualy use anyway) most energy suppliers have moving checklists. i know edf do. Purity14
Also, BT will pretend that they need to VISIT you and arrange a date. They do this so you think your £130 quid or whatever it is, feels worthwhile. Dont bother taking the day off, they dont turn up - they flick a switch in the exchange and you are online again - ive had this done to me personally twice and many friends and family have fallen for the same scam. Its funny you both say this because I can see a telephone box in the house that says BT just inside the front door! If they just activate at the exchange ill be demanding they come out and lay a new line like they said they would have to. Nice one mate, good luck in your new home:) Cheers Martin Guigsy - This is my first move so at the moment im like ' throw everything at me' next move im sure i'll be like you...how much would it cost me for you to do it lol
Purity14
I also had a BT box, and the previous person was also with BT... I demanded a refund on my second occourance, because an engineer did not show up and it was done "at the exchange". But when I took it further, they informed me that an engineer came out to the box at the end of the road to activate it. (even though they said exchange, they will keep changing the story so that you accept it or give in) Good luck, budget £150 quid ish. Yea its £127 for activation and the http://www.quidco.co.uk is giving £55 cash back on new BT lines so knocks it down to £75 if booked online through BT website. Really annoyed me this whole thing this morning. I think they base it on if the house doesnt have a telephone number...i.e new one needs to be given then its classed as the £127 job. Pixelfill
... or if your street is covered by cable, Virgin were offering free connection in our area, and the broadband is faster. Unless you want Sky, in which case you will need BT. Mike

If an estate agent said to me when im selling can you show them round we dont have the time, Id be pulling them off the sale of the house, which i presume you can do. As they havent done their job. James, if you can, go for cable for everything - the broadband is better and if you choose a bundle of all three you can get the same number of channels (give or take a couple of minor ones) for a couple of quid less than Sky - and the HD is FREE... I would snatch their hand off , 2k off will be a bargain , Wales is highly dependent on public sector jobs , and they are about to be brutalised . Something like 40000 alone in Swansea New Cgt tax could also push lots of property on the Market
