Guest Roger NE
Hope you guys don't mind me asking on here . . . but I'm a Mk3 Supra owner I've had my car 11 years, it's my daily driver and I'm on my second 7M-GE engine, which has now done 85,000 miles. I'm trying to decide what to do if this engines eventually gives up, and considering getting a secondhand 2JZ-GE. However, I wonder what the typical trouble-free mileage is that you can expect from the 2JZ-GE ? (figured you guys were the best to ask) Hope people that have had their cars a while or at least know the history can tell me what is typical . . . Homer
They will do massive mileage without issue, 300k easy. The GE shares the same block, crank and rods as the GTE so is extremely strong. More important that the miles is how well it's been looked after - i.e regular servicing, etc. a well looked after 150k mile engine will be far better than a poorly looked after 40k mile one... In terms of the actual miles from 2nd hand engines, most tend to have between 50 and 120k miles on them, but the odd low mileage one does come up from time to time. They are very cheap to buy due to high supply (normally between £150 and £300)
Swampy442
As per Homers advice but I will add, if youve already changed a 7M, and theres loads about and theyre cheap, why go through the hassle of converting?
Guest Roger NE
Because even if you look after them the 7M's DO fail . . . my original engine had big end failure after 110,000 miles . . I had a fully-recon engine and that's now done 85,000 miles . . but wondering what to do if THAT fails. I can't afford to have another recon engine fitted, wouldn't trust a s/h 7M-GE, so thinking about a s/h 2JZ-GE The fact that I wouldn't tackle an engine change myself means paying around £250 labour to have a swap done, I don't want to be doing it more than one more time ! What you've said confirms what I thought about the 2J's reliability compared to the 7M Edited June 20, 2010 by Roger NE (see edit history)
Guest Roger NE
So are there many owners of Mk4 N/As on here that have done high mileage without ever having any engine issues?
Sakey
Mines Done 114k Miles and still going strong Bulletproof engines if looked after... and have had the crank dampner changed at some point in its life

jim
Mine hit 100k yesterday, 50k of them I've put on myself over the past 4 years (ish). It's my daily driver, I had the belts done when I bought it and will have them done again at the end of July. I've had it serviced every 6 months (oil, filters etc) and new plugs and leads this time last year. I've never *touch wood* had a single mechanical issue in all that time, not one. I've spent more on servicing and mechanical issues on my wife's megan (with 50k on the clock, piece of le shit) and more recently hyundai coupe (with 30k on the clock) than I have on my own in the same timespan.
