Sharpie
I have a fair bit of heavy strimming to do each month, along the outside of the boundary of my property but, 2-3 times a each year, I need to clear (my choice) 1 mile of access road that leads to my property. You can see in the attached photo, that the weeds are now starting to close in on the road and I'm not that happy with the brush scraping down the paintwork of the Eurobox car each day. Not to mention the soop at weekends. I'm in the market for a good brushcutter or semi commercial strimmer as it's clear that the domestic/disposable units Does anyone have any recommendations on make / model ? Here are some of my initial thoughts: >30cc power It has to be a bull / Cow horn handle Should I go 4 stroke or stay with 2 stroke ? Do I need to be concerned with the type and thickness of the shaft ? Make ? Kawasaki, Stihl, Hitachi, Honda, Echo, Sarp, Tanaka etc... Thanks for any info

fizzle
the stihl fs400 (40cc, 2.6bhp) is top of the range and pricey(£750ish). It will cope with most things u can throw at it.. although this would be considered as for professional, daily use.. monthly useage you would get away with the fs100 (31cc, 1.6bhp) will cope with most undergrowth easily or there are models inbetween depending on budget... You can also buy other attachments such as hedgetrimmers, chainsaws that fit on the same engine base. Parts are also widely available and easy to get hold of.. husquavana, echo, kawasaki, and honda are all good reliable machines if you haven't got the stihl budget... would advise staying clear of ryobi, mccolluch, and other cheaper imports.. buy cheap buy twice!! also if you move or need to resell stihl hold their money well.. the thickness of your shaft is your business m8, i'd consult your mrs.. Chris Wilson
Back pack strimmers are good, but for the amount of use you will probably give it a decent high end hand held Stihl should do. That's what we use anyway. You can try it when you come over Peter, for hours and hours if you like
