SupraStar 3000
the slumdog millionaire director Danny Boyle is to be the artistic brains behind the London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies, it was announced today. Now,... not wishing to cross the line between racism and being patriotic, but I for one hope the opening ceremony isnt just a live rendition of the film 'Slum dog millionaire'. Yes, we have one of the most civilised multiculturalism countries in the world,.... but I do hope he recognises some of our other qualities and our history. SupraStar 3000
Maybe that was uncalled for. I apologize Imi. Been suffering from Hay Fever badly today and not my usual self. But the the thread topic remains. I really want to be proud of the Olympics

Bobbeh
I think you'll find a very modern image of Britain portrayed than looking at our history (regardless of who does it).. as lot of it has involved wars others countries we're inviting over to compete, it wont impress them much
SupraStar 3000
I'm watching the football and thinking, south Africa has the music, colour, enthusiasm etc,... A beef eater, chav, london bus and Spitfire hardly gives off a similar vibe. I dont envy Danny Boyle's job.

Charlotte
Ermm Shallow Grave...28 Days Later.....The Beach.... A very talented BRITISH film maker and producer with perhaps a new spin on a vision of modern Britain. I'm shocked at you Ed. If anything you should be rejoicing it's not some chump in a marble tower in London deciding the opening.

RedM
When I saw the BBC News headline 'Boyle to direct Olympic ceremony' I hoped it was to be Frankie Boyle. Seriously though, in much the same way that the South African government could have used the money they spent on stadia and facilities for a short lived football tournament to do something genuinely worthwhile and long-lasting for its own people so our own government should be ashamed of the money that is being spent on the Olympics and the fact that we have some very real problems in this country that would have benefited from a huge injection of cash. Oh, and sorry for that very long sentence.

Oh, and sorry for that very long sentence. Agreed. We shouldn't host this and nor should we even begin thinking about hosting a World Cup (for more reasons than cost).
