Chris Wilson
Cheap tough lap top with a true serial port (for mapping) wanted. Doesn't have to be state of the art or pretty, but must have a decent battery and a charger with it. Bigger the screen the better. Thanks.
Branners
How much you looking to pay? Quite a few of the Dell laptops have serial ports still. The Latitude 5510 is one, the 4410 has it as well. But you are probably wanting second hand?
dangerous brain
Mate of mine at work picks up IBM's quite cheap ie in the £150 bracket. I have one with a docking station that I adore. It does everything I need it to do but is only a small one X32 the T range is bigger I can see if he's got any stock if you like?
bignum
Ive been using 1 of these for a couple of years, great laptop, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Latitude-D531-Laptop-AMD-TURION-64bit-1-6Mhz-X-2-/180521307515?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item2a07e88d7b
Chris Wilson
Yep, £150 is definitely the top end of the budget. It'll get knocked about, if not nicked or generally *uggered up. So long as it'll run Windows XP at a reasonable speed it's fine.
Yakky
It the battery requirement that is the difficult part as a new one is often more than 70 quid. Nearly all older laptops have nearly useless battery life. Does this bother you? Could you run off cigarette lighter in-cabin?
Chris Wilson
The problem with race cars is they rarely have a fag lighter I would deem a good battery essential, but would consider a new battery as an additional cost if the laptop was otherwise a bargain
evinX
Make things easier for youself then if most cars dont have a fag lighter unit, get a old unit in a case, + and - wire which are fused with connectors that go to the battery of the car, then you can simply plug and unplug your laptop into their cars:D
edge
I have an Ergo microlite xl. It was my mums old laptop then used by my sister for a while with i think a hookie version of xp on it. Its just a laptop with charger. Has a 1300mhz pentium processor and 248mb ram. Not sure if the port it the one you need so check spec online if not I can post it to you and you can have a go then. Unless anyone else knows how to check it? Never used a seriel port
