Matt H
So what are your thoughts? Top and tail is the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood will be dropped to 50mg; plus police will be able to carry out random breath tests. The 50mg is approx one pint, so I anticipate the safest option if you were going to have a beverage is half a pint.... so basically no drink at all as nobody likes ordering a half! Umm, poll - why not.
evinX
I dont even think there should be a limit, it should be no alcohol full stop when behind the wheel of a vehicle. Becuase youll just get a 17 year old whos just passed, cant handle a light drink and will kill themself or someone else.
TopgunTT
I think a total ban should be imposed on drink driving, Will solve any confusion then on my much you can have.
James
The lower the better IMO. I always make the decision at the start of the night/day - drink OR drive. Never both. Not worth it

Top and tail is the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood will be dropped to 50mg; plus police will be able to carry out random breath tests. I thought they could do random tests anyway. Plus I never realised 1 pint was 50mg. I just never drink at all if driving. So does not affect me anyway.
AJI
Better to have a line of thinking that if you're going to drive then don't touch a drink. Maybe the limit should have been lower?
hodge
dont have a drink at all if you have the car with you. Simple really. Think they should lower it even more.
Smallshinyant
I guess the way this can effect a lot of people, is the morning after a few drinks.

supra_aero
I guess the way this can effect a lot of people, is the morning after a few drinks. Yeh I thought this too. Not sure how fair it'd be to get done with 4mgs of alcohol in you at 10am after drinking the night before. Not sure how they'd get around this. Maybe a tolerane of 50mg 8am until 11am? I dunno? James
I guess the way this can effect a lot of people, is the morning after a few drinks. Again, I think this is a simple consideration before going out: "Do I need to drive early and, if so, how much can/can't I drink to be able to do so". There's never an excuse

I'd imagine that the effects of drink driving are the same no matter what time of the day it is!
martini
The main issue is that the equipment used would still not read zero even if you've never had a drink in your life. I never even have a shandy if I am driving though, but I know plenty of people that do drink and drive (not necessarily drunk, but have drank). Guest damo1
I dont drink but if i did i certainly wouldn't drink and drive ive seen the results first hand and its not nice...

I agree, but if you get done with alcohol in you from night before I think it would be harsh if there was a zero tolerance and you had a tiny amount in you, say 5mg. shima60
I think they should stop drink driving all together, If your going to drink then just don't drive. Simple as... I have to say i have had a drink then drove....

Mike
It makes sense to lower it if statistically it's going to save x% of life... but it's a ball ache for the coppers.
TonyP
It's a little unrealistic to reduce the limit to zero. You could get a ban after a small bowl of sherry trifle or some cough medicine.
Wez
Personally I think it should be zero, therefore much easier/cheaper to police.
supra_aero
I think post 11 makes a good point on that. I don't think its that simple or fair in all circumstances. Say you went to a wedding and you need to drive back home 200 miles the next day. Are you going to not drink on the wedding day or wait until 4pm to leave the next day? We have to be realistic. Some might - most won't
Swampy442
I dont think lowering the limit will change any habits, those who want to drink and drive will still do it, just means more people will get caught
kill1308
I personally think they should just leave it as it is.... I don't drink and drive myself, but I don't see any issue with people being able to have a single pint of beer and then drive home. I think zero tolerance is a silly idea. As others have said, any time you went out the next day after a night out (potentially all day) you could be risking your license even though you weren't in any way impaired by the low level of alcohol still in your system. If I've had a skinful the night before, I'd always leave it until late afternoon before driving around, but you could still be at risk then. To be honest, I think there's plenty more pressing issues that the government should be dealing with rather than worrying about this. The brain-dead people who go out and get slaughtered and then drive home would still do it anyway....
AlanM
lower the limit to zero
martini
lower the limit to zero I've already said, the measurements have an error associated with them - they never measure zero. A tee-total baby wouldn't always measure a zero.
