Matt H
I really need to sort out my itunes songs - my library is a mess, full of various songs from various sources and most likely repetition. Has anyone got experiance of any programs available for automatically sorting out your Library. I'd like something to: - rename songs, albums, artists - delete repetition of songs. Don't mind it it costs me. Cheers, Matt
caseys
tidysongs.com Repetitions you can easily sort out yourself in iTunes though... there's an option in iTunes to Find Duplicates ... can't remember where exactly, at work with no access to the program. Mike
I use Spotify for pretty much everything these days, on-line and local files... it uses Gracenote.com to tidy things up. I have to say it was very good. I had tracks with no title or artist (cough, Limewire, cough cough) and it nailed in first go I'm not sure if it works with iTunes, like... Does it sort songs within a folder, or is it windows player based etc?
Mike
Does it sort songs within a folder, or is it windows player based etc? err... I haven't properly checked out the actual files yet, but I would imagine it's overwritten the ID3 tag.. which should be picked up in iTunes/Media Player I'll have a closer look tonight and let you know. It worked so well and so quickly I didn't really geek it up to find out what the thing had done. I think I'm getting old
monsween
Its a windows based player mate. Altho if you opt to pay for it (10er a month) you can sync the music to your phone. IMO one of the best programs to come out in the last few years. Does everything i want it to

Can't you get something that's a one off payment? £10 a month could run into hundreds!

monsween
You can use it for free with an invite (i have a couple spare) BUT you can only listen to the music you search for when online and have to listen to ads. You can however listen to all your stored tracks. Again still need an account

martini
Renaming songs on an invididual basis is going to be almost impossible. I would be amazed if software would automatically be able to do that. As for duplicates, try this within iTunes: http://img.skitch.com/20100615-1c3xqr7ywudk8qkx4u8yimx257.jpg

It exists, I'm just asking which tools are recommened (if any). My duplicates are not as simple as that, as they are named differently due to different sources and repitition from different albums. garetheves
Matt, try tag&rename. Its an ID3 tag editor that lets you edit multiple ID3 tags in one go. Basically you select the song you want, edit the artist, album name, year etc and it updates them all. All you would have to enter manually is the track name and maybe number, but there are ways of doing this automatically as well A trial version can be downloaded free if you google it, and a fully working version can be found, complete with serial number, if you know where to look It can be a bit fiddly at first but once you get used to it its dead easy. Im completely anal bout my MP3 collections (verging on OCD) and how they are named, organised etc. This programme keeps me on top of em If you get it and need a hand with it, give me a shout

OK, I tried Gracenote CDDB is the service used to obtain metadata from a CD that you put into your computer. Good luck finding a service that will change metadata in single MP3 files in an automated fashion... let me know if you find anything as I would be amazed and would also buy it. One of them was mentioned in the second post... Have a read: http://hubpages.com/hub/Tidysongs-vs-Tuneup-Media
