Yeah, it sounds like youve got a load of shortcuts to the pictures, instead of the actual pictures.

Its possible that youve connected a camera thats come up as a "removable drive" in My Computer, then instead of copying the pictures over to the "My Documents" folder, youve created shortcuts by mistake instead.

i.e. Youve gone to "copy", and instead of clicking "paste", youve clicked "paste shortcut" which is right beneath said option on the right click menu.

hi, no everything was ok untill i tried to load my sony image transfer disc about two weeks ago .

my scandisc now stops at 42% saying there is an invalid long file name but was unable to fix .

my norton security notified me its time for an update yesturday , and all sorts started going on half way through that , so something is not right

Hmm, have you still got the piccys on the camera? - if so thats great as it means you have a backup.

If not then I may have some software (I think its called "dont panic" or something) whose function is to recover lost pictures!

Ive also got a app called "File Scavenger" which will do the same thing, but for any file.

What, in a time machine  :D (noi!)?

Seriously though. Disable norton and system restore to the first time you had problems as so succinctly suggested :p - if you have a restore point of course.

One final thing - when you connect your camera to your PC, pop into My Computer and have a look for the "removable drive". If this is there then you can simply copy and paste the piccys across without having to install the Sony software.

sorry pete i know nothing about 98se as it was the last of the dos systems.

i am quite good with 2000 and xp is idiot proof. so the pm idea would be useless as i would not be able to visualise what is being said.and most of the commands have changed, once again sorry
