Guest Supra-T
I installed my new head unit in yesterday and when I put everything back together my AFR gauge wasn't working at all, I checked all the wires etc. and they all seem to be connected? Have I blown it or something?
Pete
I guess the first thing to do is check with a multi meter you're getting power to it still.
Guest Supra-T
Good idea! Will do that tomorrow and report back with the findings, I guess if there isn't power then its obviously a faulty wire or something if not then it's trouble I take it?!! Pete
That would be my assumption. Bad connection, faulty wire, blown fuse. Handy things those multimeters for checking continuity across the joints as well as voltage.
Guest Supra-T
Thanks mate, went out and bought one of those multimeters at maplins today. I took everything apart today and started testing for live at the gauge, there wasn't a live so I traced the wire back to a fuse under behind the dash. I tested both points and one of them wasn't working and the other one was so I thought bingo, I got a replacement fuse and put that in and re-tested the connections on the AFR and now I was getting a live so I turned the car over and I had no joy, the bloody thing was still dead!! So it's getting a live and it's earthed properly but it still doesn't work!
Pete
Oh dear, a minor success but no trophy. I don't suppose it's one of those units that require both a permanent live (for memory) and an ignition live (to turn it on) is it? Are there any other wires or is it just earth, live and the O2 sensor? What model is it? Was it new? I guess the fact that the fuse had blown could've been the unit dying. No it only has the three wires mate. It came with the car but it does look like an early model. Oh no!
Pete
Well, if it has a live and good earth (you check that too right?) then I'm not sure what else to suggest.
Guest Supra-T
It is earthed properly too mate. Does the unit have an internal fuse do you reckon?
Homer
I very much doubt any gauge has an internal fuse. What make/model is the AFR gauge? There needs to be more than 3 wires going to it, normally you'd have 3 wires just for power (+12v, +5v switched and earth), there is usually another plug for the actual readings from the O2 sensor. Are you sure you've not just missed plugging something in?
