BMW driver doesn't like it when you keep up

Typical BMW driver, M3 driver last nite was not too happy when I passed him

He had to give it the beans , cut across two lanes and slam on the brakes for a sharp bend into the shopping center

I've got one of those

 

The roadhawk stores video, encrypted and timestamped, with GPS co-ordinates to show location and speed, and a G-sensor recording as well so you can tell how hard impacts and manouvers were.

 

I put it in my daily driver for the commute. So far I've recorded three dangerous drivings (overtaking above speed limit into oncoming traffic, forcing them to move over or collide head-on) and one deliberate red traffic light jump (stopped, considered it, accelerated off through it).

 

So you know when you report this sort of stuff to plod they say "not much we can do, it's your word against theirs" and to be fair, that's true, well, I thought this should be pretty good ammo for them! I had a meeting with the police about the first two dangerous drivings and showed them the video. Left them with a CD with everything on and contact details. Didn't hear anything back.

 

I phoned in the red light jump and tried to tell the woman it was video'd but she couldn't get me off the phone fast enough. She said to me "if it wasn't witnessed by a police officer then there is nothing we can do".

 

Funnily enough I didn't bother contacting them about the 3rd dangerous driving incident.

 

The message I have now is, drive how you like if there is no copper about, you're untouchable. Even if recorded with this bit of gear, the police aren't interested.

 

I guess it's a bit like hard work compared to pulling over safe drivers who are a bit above the limit on an empty dual carriageway

 

I might start putting the vids on YouTube with an explanation of how the police weren't interested, I bet that'll generate some response.

I'm just so jaded with the whole thing, though I thought they'd love the chance to bag some of these chavvy frickers, go "surprise mofo! We got admissable video evidence from a civvie hahaa" and take their licence away.

 

But no, nothing. So yeah, drive over kerbs, on pavements, tailgate, overtake into traffic, jump reds, whatever, you're untouchable as long as plod isn't about And don't bother reporting anyone who does this, you'll just get

It's all excellent and well thought through, except the software is a bit feature-poor and the resolution/compression means number plates are illegible most of the time, so you have to remember that seperately (I used put it in my phone but of course don't bother now).

 

To give an example of how good the package is, the software is tiny and installs almost instantly, and it lives in the unit's firmware. Every time you put in an SD card it deploys the current version to it, so all you ever need is the SD card. If there is a newer version on the card, it uploads it to the firmware. How easy-life is that! No faff with downloads or seperate install CDs and pre-reqs.

 

I'm mainly using it for insurance purposes, so I can prove the BMW driver hit me, not the other way round

Breaking the speed limit isn't really an issue for me, it's the fact someone clipped my wingmirror overtaking me because they were mostly in the oncoming traffic lane and were trying to avoid the oncoming traffic.

 

Stuck in some choice pics, 4 frames of each incident. The 120deg fisheye lens distorts things a bit and the camera is on the extreme left of the windscreen, but I think you'll get the idea even so
