Lude
car is boosting like its going out of fasion. the prev owner said it had a 1.2 or a 1.0 bar restricor ring on it. boosted 1.4 even 1.5bar ive put my new 1 bar ring on, its exactly the same size, is there a pipe i can put a welding tip in or something? on the wastegate? (thats what do on a 300zx to up the boost) or other than restricter ring, how can i keep the boost down??
Suprab1
What size is the hole in your RR?
Lude
not sure without measuring, but i ordered it from whifbitz as a 1 bar ring rarther than buying new ring with a tiny hole, and keep machining it out, refitting, testing, theres gota be an easier way? fit UK wastegates so doesnt overboost? patrikbrunt
have you checked all your vacuum hoses? I had one pop off the other day between the turbo housing and my boost controller solenoid and that caused it to massively overboost. Suprab1
My 1 bar rr was 42mm & was only boosting at .8 bar. I cut the hole to 60mm - 62mm & get 1 bar. Tbh they are a pain to cut (i did mine with an angle grinder) but unless you put back in cats its all you can do i think. I don't think you can change the wastegate on the stock turbos unfortunately. Lude
hmm ok. i guess il order a ring with a considerably smaller hole in it than the usual 1 bar rings. then hopefully thatl bring it down a bit. if too small il ave to guess a size to increase it to then. is a real pain in the arse way of doing things isnt it? Suprab1
Yes it is. I was lucky with mine as i tried it first with no rr but was hitting boost cut. So then took the angle grinder out & started cutting. Lucky enough i didn't go to big but made it about 60 - 62mm the first time i cut it. It really would be a nuisance taking it in & out more than once.
Nic
ive put my new 1 bar ring on, its exactly the same size There is no such thing as a 1bar restrictor ring, the size of hole required to limit it to 1bar will vary from car to car. If the hole is exactly the same size as your other one then it'll boost exactly the same. You need to get one with a smaller hole and then widen the hole until it is boosting to the required pressure. theres gota be an easier way? fit UK wastegates so doesnt overboost? The stock turbos have an internal wastegate ie. it is part of the turbo housing and cannot be changed. Fitting a restrictor ring may be crude, but it is the simplest and cheapest way to limit the boost.
Terminator
Just to support what Nic has said about RR's, I had one that held my car to slightly under 1.2 bar in the summer When I gave it to someone else their car over boost to just under 1.4bar. It is not rocket science, just get one with a smaller hole, use a vice and a file and keep trying it until you get the boost you want. Rinus
Looks like your wastegate doesn't open full, maybe a vacuum hose on the actuator? I had a 1,2 bar R-Ring (51mm//2inch) wich worked very nice, best with boostcontroller...

Rinus
It worked best with boostcontroller, because on hot days boost dropped to 1,1bar with the 1,2 ring, and with controller you can get it back to 1,2 bar..
