paulrenn
I haven't investigated the details very deeply, but on first glance these things seem to be quite similar to the Supra. 3L engine, twin turbo (sequential), 6 cylinders, and rear wheel drive. 6 speed option? Is this a modern day Supra? Don't seem to hear much about them. Maybe they are crap. Opinions? Edit: this is the one I am referring to, I don't think the TT version is available new any more: http://www.insideline.com/bmw/3-series/2007/full-test-2007-bmw-335i-coupe.html

tbourner
I've just built a 335i M coupe on their website, only £53k.
paulrenn
When it was first announced I was sure they stole the spec from the Supra. I'm not talking about price, purely technical ability.
tbourner
Well the Supra was £42K I think in the UK? So it's not bad in terms of price comparison either in todays prices. Only 300-odd BHP though I think?
caseys
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=198872&highlight=335i And after hearing about a few failures of engines/manifolds/turbos prematurely on 535d's etc after remaps and also 330's I wonder how marginal these engines/turbos are
kill1308
They put this engine in the 1 series as well don't they? I bet that goes quite well
paulrenn
Ah, I did search but didn't find that thread. Odd. Also they dropped the TT in favour of T for current model. I bet these engines would go pop if you went to town with tuning though.
Gaz6002
Repost People have said this before, but I still think the Supra is a completely different car. The new one has the same I6 engine but with a single turbo - which is a shame because the TT unit won loads of awards, including engine of the year. The car is tunable to M3+ performance, but to make it a real package you'd need serious money spent on the suspension. It's far to soft and wallowy for a performance car. Ian C
The 535D sequential system is very different to the Supra one. It's much more compact and has less control mechanisms, it has a small then a large turbo, and it works via compound charging rather than twin charging. My feel is that it's less efficient than the TT setup on the Supra when it comes to smooth air flow and heat generation, but that's more than made up for in packaging and simplicity. I don't know if the same setup is used in the 335i but I can't see why it wouldn't be. Oh and if the airbox lid is replaced incorrectly, you'll lunch both turbos as a rubber seal falls into them

ozz
I'd go for the 135 instead, I've been looking at them for weeks and you can get a sub20k mileage 08 plate for £20k-£24k. Not had a test drive yet, but 0-60 in 5 seconds and a lot of toys is making it a very interesting option. I'm in london today, I walked passed a BMW service dealer in Acton, loads of new BMs and it was the 135 or the 6 series that looked the nicest (IMO). They revved up a 6 (yes I loitered a while) and it sounded stunning but a very big car.
