Guest matt j Posted June 9, 2010 Share Posted June 9, 2010 hi, hoping for some help. washed the car atthe weekend and parked it up in the garage, put the active spoiler down to scrape the flies off it. got it cleaned and went into the house. came back to the car to go out, now the active spoiler wont fold back up when i start the engine. tried to use the switch to put it up aswell, i can hear a relay click when i press the up / off button, but the spoiler doesnt move. there are no stored fault codes. the connector at the motor itself has no corrosion on it but i dont know what pin has what voltage to work out whats wrong. help would be much appreciated, i cant get out of my street due to silly big speed bumps. has anyone got any ideas ? thankyou Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest matt j Posted June 9, 2010 Share Posted June 9, 2010 miko - the 30a fuse in the footwell is fine that was one of the first things i checked. ellis - it doesnt retract when you move the car, i know this because thats how i found out it doesnt clear the speed bumps at the end of my street. any other ideas ? Guest matt j Posted June 10, 2010 Share Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) close steve, I decided after finding the TRL wiring diagram on the site that the motor would be an easy thing to test. I applied twelve volts frpom the battery to the motor when removed and it wouldnt work, the wires nearly fused to the contacts. I figured that it was the gears had siezed. so i took the cap off the motor itself. 3 screws and you get picture 2. the motor itself turned freely, so freely it came out. the bushes luckily are wired and float on springs, fun to put back together. see picture 3. when the commutator spindle was turned the mechanism moved up and down as it should. Then i looked at the cap in case something was stuck in it. The glue that had held the magnets onto the cap had fallen apart, sticking between the commutator and the magnets inside the cap. causing the magnets to all be stuck together in a row. this meant that the electric motor itself wouldnt turn. I then gave the magnets a quick key with 600 grit sandpaper and stuck them back in with an epoxy bonder. (quite a lot of epoxy bonder ):thumbs Making sure that they are equal distances apart. This can be seen in the picture 4. Picture 5 is just the bonder i used. great stuff sets rock hard in less than 2 minutes. Then put the cap back on, put the spoiler assembly back in and pressed the dash button. it worked ! Fixed. Thanks for the input guys, hope this is useful to someone someday.
