Blocked saliva gland

Recommended Posts

Anyone had one?

Neck became sore yesterday afternoon, on way home a lump grew to a malteser size, last night turned into golf ball size. Nearly went to A&E but decided to sleep on it first. Went to docs today and it’s a blocked saliva gland. Apparently a small stone the size of a grain of salt can block the pipes, and the gland fills with saliva, it grows when you eat. Doc said don’t be surprised if it gets as big as a tennis ball! Antibiotics for a week, if its not gone 1-2 weeks after that, needs operating on to un block pipe or remove gland.

:D nice replies.

Its not comfortable at all. If i look to the right it feels like my neck is just solid. If you poke it you can feel a golf ball sized lump inside, very much like a bol*o@k :)

It definetly grew after lunch, not tennis ball, but bigger than that pic. Just going down a bit now, but can still easily see it. Swallowing isnt comfortable at all no.

Last couple of hours ive been freezing as well, keep shivering and my head doesnt feel right. Not sure if that is the antibiotics or what

Thanks Michael! :) I dont think it could be popped from the outside. Doc said if the antibiotics work, the 'stone' that is blocking the pipe will just come into my mouth, but being so small you probably wouldnt even know about it.

I'm glad i had that shave Geo, dont fancy going anywhere near that area with a razor now for a while :)

I had that once. Looked under my tongue an saw one of the saliva ports had a white head on it, scratched it off and covered the mirror top to bottom :D

I thought I had it again recently but this time it turned out to be a Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. One operation & Five teeth out later, Radio therapy start on 28th of June for 6 weeks, can't wait :(

Thanks Guys, I actually found out post op when my saliva gland went off for biopsy. The CT show no signs spread or any remaining matter, but with any type of the big C a mopping up exercise with RT is routine.

I only mention it as it took 3 visits to my GP before he referred me and then after the first needle core sample was told it was benign. So make sure you get more than ONE opinion as GP's and A'n'E are just human box shifters.

Christ Nodalmighty! sorry to hear that, have got me worried now. Very much hope all goes ok for you.

Well its changd in size several times, getting on my tits a bit now. The antibiotics they have given me seem to have knocked me for six. My head has been pounding ever since, last night felt very rough and dizzy. If i turned my head my eyes seem to catch up afterwards, couldnt even walk up a flight of stairs without holding onto the banister, words have been a bit slurred to. not sure if im coming down with something else or what

Pedrosixfour, no chin problems here, must just be the photo angle :)

Are they going to give you a dose of chemo as well? As a mopping-up-just-in-case exercise?
