Been to a wedding in Poland this weekend

A couple Lucy work with got wed back home in Sczezin this weekend and we got invited over. All I can say is it was absolutely bonkers! I think I've had about 4 hours sleep in the last 4 days.

Ceremony was at 4pm Saturday, reception started about 6pm, we left at around 6am, didn't really get any sleep (due to it being baking hot and the air-con being bust in the hotel) and back to the reception at 12pm Sunday til 7pm.

Midnight on Saturday seemed to involve silly games including a "Mr & Mrs" type thing for the bride & groom, and lots of other things I didn't have a clue what was going on, especially the bit where I was told to wear a dress and dance with the best man  - something about needing "a few brave men".

They cottoned onto the fact that I didn't drink pertty quickly and had a laugh about it; every time there was a toast (every 10 minutes or so), someone would start filling the glasses up with vodka, then turn to me and say "for you - special vodka" and fill my glass up with water, lol.

Overall an absolutely brilliant experience, the town was nice, the people were fantastic and the food was great. I'd definately go back and spend a bit more time doing the touristy thing.

:D

Szczecin is quite nice town, it is well worth to go and visit polish sea coast at summer - Gdansk, Sopot etc. You can travel from Szczecin along the coast and you will see hundreds of small town/villages, great food, white beach sand and cheap accomodation. Best month to travel there is usually August, because weather in July might be little unstable.

I went to Warsaw, not a bad place, it too much communist feeling about it due to the builings (the originals blew up in the war) the people were friendly enough.

I did feel the place was oddly quiet though.. I think most Poles were in the UK at that time :D

I love the architecture in Warsaw - it's a nice mix of old and new. :)

Some parts are quiet but certainly not the main town.

I remember you getting mugged in Poland Charlotte :(

and I'm still looking for the culprits :search:

That was in a very dodgy part - lots of warehouses and no normal houses (we were going to an all night new years eve warehouse club) and over the river (apparently none of my family ever venture over there). But yes - not an enjoyable experience!
