michel lane
I recently change the cam belt on my single and noticed that i had a little oil coming from the VVTi cam gear on the pully wheel. so i proceed to take the cover of the unit, removing all 5 bolts . I pulled the VVTi cam cover off and viewed the gears within the casing . unfortunately i lost the position of the outer camgear timing . So my question is this , do i align the internal gear with the external marker (line) of the outer cam gear . This causes the second gear with a (line marker) to be out of alignment . Or do i align the second gear with the outer pully marker ? Hope this makes sense. I have a conclusion that it is the inner gear marker to the external pully marker (line) as i noticed the spare hole shows through slit on the cover plate. The inner seal went brittle, so i replaced the seal, this should sort out my slight oil leak from the casing . __________________
Kirk
I'm not 100% sure on this one but if you remove the 5 bolts from the pulley toyota call for a new one as it upsets the function of the pulley. That's according to the latest workshop manual
michel lane
Its only the cover that i have removed and not the gears themselves. I see the point on the gears, as there are many seals, but still if the gears are fine and seals worn, why change the lot ?
Kirk
Ah right may of misread! My apologies, I've had a few to drink. Again according to the manual it should be lined up with the marker itself!
