mwilkinson
I have installed my RLTC now and Phil has kindly supplied me with a nice dat file to load. I have the digital controller and am able to see good signals from the wheel speed sensors and rpm. I have had an issue with wheel allocation and as such have tried to plug in a computer to manually select each wheel channel and upload the dat file. When I plug in the laptop it tells me that there is a com channel being used by the unit but I am unable to write, receive or monitor anything from the RLTC ecu? I have read a few old posts and it points to this being a common issue with laptop incompatibility. I am not using a modern laptop with a usb adaptor but an old Windows 98 laptop with built in 9 pin connector. Is there a common reason for this that is easy to resolve? Or is it best to use a modern laptop with a usb adaptor? Until I get this sorted I have to switch the RLTC off as it thinks the driven wheels are at the front!! Any help would be gratefully received. Frustrate Matt.
mwilkinson
Well it looks like USB adaptors are just not the done thing. I have reviewed the laptop com port drivers and they are quite old. It may be that the drivers need updating? The issue here is that I have no way of connecting it to the internet, yes it is that old!! I found this link: Link This suggests a new PCMCIA card is the best option? Is this better than finding a way to update the existing com port drivers? This is getting into some seriously computer tech stuff as far as my feeble brain goes. Any input from a computer person (I was going to say geek or nerd but not the best way to get help ) would be welcome.
Pudsey
I have the same problem. Well sort of. I have a new pc with a brand new usb to serial port adaptor, and the thing stll won't work. Does any one have any experience of actually being able to use a usb to serial port for Race Logic. Surely someone has done this before no? As ever any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve
Try setting the usb adaptor like this in device manager. Bits per second - 19200 Data bits - 8 Parity - None Stop Bits - 1 Flow Control - None Also force it to be Com port 1. Which is under port settings >advanced, then change to COM1. Just make sure when you use it you always plug it in to the same USB port. These settings have always worked for me with the USB to Serial adaptors. mwilkinson
Steve, The laptop I'm using has windows 98. Would setting the com 1 the same as detailed above make it work for mine too? Also is there any way to make the software work from a mac?

I have tried a multitude of different settings, but didnt try to change the port though. I will give that a go and see what happens. Don't understand why it won't work. I even tried slowing it all down too bits wise.

Steve
No joy I am affriad. Swapped to Com Port 1, and same message comes up. If it dont work it is usually the adaptor that is causing the problem. It does seem to be a bit hit and miss as to which ones will work. Edit: Maybe try a PCMCIA card as suggested in this post. http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=2657279&postcount=39 Edited June 6, 2010 by Steve (see edit history)

Looks like I will try out one of those then, and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for your time buddy.
