SupraDan24
As the title suggests, i'm thinking about taking the Mrs abroad this year on one of those last minute deals or possibly through Directline holidays. My problem is....i dont know where to go I havent been abroad since i was about 12, and that was to Mexico to live with my Dad for 6 weeks. For this reason i have no idea where's good and where's crap. I'm looking for a beach and activities during the day/bars or clubs at night sort of holiday with people similar to our age, im 25 she's 23 OR a nice secluded island/s sort of holiday where we could explore the beaches and coves and go Scuba diving and relax in a spa. All inclusive or half board staying in a decent hotel/resort. Anyone know of any decent places to go(somewhere hot/white sands blue sea and all that), or better yet decent resorts they've been to in the past and had a good time. All idea's are welcome, i'm pretty flexible. Grand Canaria has come up so far, not sure on which resort though. Increased my budget to £1500 for 2 adults but could persuade myself to pay that little bit extra if its meant to be really good. In the mean time i'll keep looking...... michael
£500 each all inclusive will be pushing it a bit won't it?
Rob_Mitchell
im doing the same as you this year as i have apparantly spent too much on the car and her at home dont get treats lol. we went dominican last year and it was out this world the food was spot on and people are so nice and friendly... i would recommend here, i compare every holiday to this as its that good. somewhere i have considered this year is egypt but hear bad food reports, last thing i want is to be running to the toilet every 5 mins. if people recommend egypt please write up. supra_aero
Sounds like you are heading to a European booze up holiday from what you are saying - Spain, Greece and all those little islands which are not overly fond of the English lol etc. -not my thing personally. I'd recommend a much more sophisticated holiday in the likes of Sweden/Sicily/Milan and renting a country home and a car. But when I was your age I felt the same as you. I know some good places in Milan/Sicily to stay if you are interested. But it'd be a different type of holiday to what you are saying I think. SupraDan24
£500 each all inclusive will be pushing it a bit won't it? I've no idea, havent been abroad in 13 years lol. Theres plenty of places under the £500 mark on Directline holidays, i just dont know if any of them are any good. Money isnt really the issue tbh, i suggested 1K to try be sensible otherwise i'd go mental and spend loads. As long as its a good holiday that both me and the better half will enjoy then i'll spend more.
Brazil
Are you able to find flights, accomodation, food & drinks for 2 weeks at 1k for 2 ppl..! You will have to bargain hunt for sure..! I personally dont like all inclusive because most hotels have crap food..! It's better to have the freedom to eat in different restaurants..! sod eating at the hotel everynight unless you are talking about club med...! but that's a bit more then 1k..! With that budget I would look at finding some cheap flights and then just renting an apartment... spain, portugal, central europe maybe even florida..! There are lots of cheap flights to Orlando.. then you can do some shopping too...!

I think pretty much the only holiday like that i'd enjoy would be Rome, but thats only because i read the Dan Brown books and would try re-trace Langdons movements lol....i'm so uncultered
Mcgoo
If your planning on going out most nights to pubs, clubs etc then really isn't it a waist of money going all inclusive? Maybe half board would better suit?
supra_aero
I've done £500 each quite comfortably. Flights to Sweden can be had for £70 return with ryanair. So its by no means impossible. You'll just have to watch your money that's all.

The price isnt that much of an issue, i'll remove it from the first post, the main thing is that the holiday is really good fun with loads to do day and night in a nice resort. Sicily had some stunning beaches and drives. See the volcano Etna smoking over! Sweden beautiful views and you must try the food! Going in the Swedish Sauna then diving in an iced over lake which has had a little hole cut in it! Those experiences will last far longer than a hangover. I've tried both Or you could go Amsterdam and do the whole "party" thing at night, then do the sights - Heineken factory, Anne Frank house, go down the rivers and canals in a boat, ride the bikes around town etc. etc.

Maybe half board would better suit? Probably, it was more for the day time while were swanning around poolside and fancy some cocktails and a bite to eat. I dont want the hassle of having to pay as i go or looking for somewhere to eat if i'm hungry. Half board might be okay though.

Holidays on Greek islands can be very sophisticated, unfortunately most English people have associated Greek islands with booze and pissing on people's houses like if they were on a night out in Blackpool. Obviously this makes the locals a bit unhappy. I assure you that there are places out of this world on the same islands, but people just don't bother exploring anything else than the cocktail bar... It's not the location that is unsophisticated or unrefined but more the people who go there.

I didnt really like it tbh, the parts i went too felt a bit seedy. I was being shown round by a right dirty sod though, so that might have had something to do with it haha. It's a pity as I'd love to go and see ancient Greek sights but the thought of the rowdy drunks in Greece in the bars at night etc. put me right off. If I had a Greek mate to show me around where the louts don't go I'd definitely be there like a shot
