The Raven
Looks like a done deal. Part of me can see why after the season we just had. However he has had a great run considering what he took over with. He has signed IMO The best striker in the world in Torres The best Holding mid in Mach The best goal keeper in the league in Pep. If this turns out to be over the 3m that it is being reported he was told he has to spend in the summer then i understand why he has given up on the club. If he had money i would have given him one more go out of respect for what he has done in the past, lets not forget how close we came the season before. I have no idea who we can afford best i can hope for would be Guus or Hodgson. The two owners are fast killing the club, Gerrard seems to want out. |Torres may be sold to raise funds for the new manager. Dark days for sure. The Raven
I think it is bad management that is killing the club. Each team sends more than it makes... I fail to see that. He pushed Utd to the end the season before, won the C/L and got to another final. We won at barc, Real, Utd. So he cant be that bad. Dont get me wrong hes not perfect but he needed another season IMO. The club is in decline there isnt a guy out there that can get us into the top 4 with 3m to spend. johnny g
I think it is bad management that is killing the club. Each team sends more than it makes... Agreed - Benitez rotated Liverpool out of the league in 2008/2009. It was his tittle to lose after the start. He's blown £230m - ok he's got some back, but he's signed crap and sold it on for less than he's paid. Bad management all-round. I'm gutted he's leaving! Al Massey
Im glad hes leaving. We dont need to spend money to win anything, we just need to put out a good team that work together. Rafa did have some good times, but he keeps changing his mind every 5 mins Hopefully get someone in who will push the team and get them to work together
johnny g
Torres will be leaving and Gerrard next as that's the only way to raise money for new players. Benayoun will be off to Russia as well, apparently. Good times.
hogmaw
As a neutral non Liverpool fan he has to go. Spent too much money on mediocre players and for no results. Plus finishing out of the top four is not acceptable, period.
Swampy442
He may have signed Torres and Reina, but Ill bet they'll be off along with Gerrard and Mascherano. He also signed some right dross in the form of Ngog, Babel, Johnson, Lucas, Aquilani etc etc

I'm not complaining about his football managing abilities, more the poor management of the business. They are two seperate entities and should be treated as such. I would be interested to know who is responsible for deciding who to purchase and what to spend. In my opinion that should not be the Football Manager. One of the 1st people Chelsea bought when their oil tychoon bought the club was the Manchester United staff member responsible for the business financial running and performance of the club (can't remember his name but someone will). That was a superb purchase.... never mind the players. I am an Arsenal fan and my big gripe is that Wenger is stingy with the cash. Saying that though loko how much money he has brought into the club and how quickly he is paying off the debt. low gearing means that the club is financially stronger and can compete more effectively. He's blown £230m - ok he's got some back, but he's signed crap and sold it on for less than he's paid. Bad management all-round. A good example of where my view comes from - Personally I think his job should be coaching and running the team, not buying players and the financial situaiton of the club. 2 different jobs. IMO a manager should be in charge of buying the players, how can he build a squad he wants any other way? Let the board buy players and you end up in a situation like Keegan

That was a superb purchase.... never mind the players. It used to be Rick Parry, the clubs Cheif Exec, but the Fat Spanish Waiter (FSW) kicked and moaned when Parry questioned some purchases, on the players more than the amounts I think. When it came around to contract renewals, the FSW demanded that he be solely responsible for transfers in and out of the "clooob". Therefore, he is solely responsible for the state of the first XI, having had almost a quarter of a billion to spend on players.

Let the board buy players and you end up in a situation like Keegan I partially agree - but a manager should tell the board who he wants, and that's it. It should be done at board level. Football is a business now, not a sport and a coach is not necessarily a business man and the agents in capitalising in many cases.
Guest damo1
i think that he shouldnt go as remember its the players that do the work on the pitch and if they dont perform then its themselves that should get the sack not the manager.. but i do think liverpool bought a load of shit players i.e lucas. aquilani, i think that it was only gerrard. torres and reina that kept you this season. gerrard should have joined chelsea when he had the chance.. and with you not playing champions league football next season i bet that torres wont be there long or gerrard for that matter... They wont be able to get a Name in at all. Worse still they wont be able to give the new guy any kind of transfer funds. Unless they sell first which im starting to think is why rafa was pushed. I think he would have stood in the way of the fire sale these two are planning. Hicks has just finished bankrupting his baseball team the Texas Rangers and we are next
Kopite
Sorry to see him go, he had some great moments and some awful ones. Signing Torres and Reina was genius, as was Alonso at the time too - his treatment of Alonso was one of the most awful moments he had though, as was letting us go down to one striker only. The squad when we had Crouch and Torres was awesome, letting Bellamy go was a mistake as was selling Warnock and Arbeloa. Player power must have had an impact too, Houllier had 6 years and so did Rafa. Problem is, will there be anyone better to replace him considering we're skint. Why would Hiddink, O'Neill or anyone want the job at the minute. Kenny seems favourite at the minute, otherwise we'll be getting the dinner lady in for the job (better than Moyes anyway )

RiceRocket
Delighted. He's a good European manager but an under par Premiership manager. He'll be perfect for Serie A though, all that tactical defence nous will be a boon for him! Fucked up with Alonso , if he had kept him and bought a left back and a good striker (selling Crouch ) to play alongside Torres in the not-so-big games then surely our top division league wins would've upped to 19. One of the 1st people Chelsea bought when their oil tychoon bought the club was the Manchester United staff member responsible for the business financial running and performance of the club (can't remember his name but someone will). As for telling me to support my local side? which london club would that be? Been at this with you before. Without us lot your clubs would be nothing. Paying some £130 and traveling over 6 hours means im a fan end of. Started liking football when i was a kid a certain John Barnes was playing and i was in awe of him and started pretending to be him in the play ground. Supported Liverpool ever since.
