Guest BHP>MPG
Hey guys, I thought seeing as I'm on the site and need some help...why not ask you all. I need to set up a website for my rugby team, but a professional and decent one. We are happy to pay, so we are steering clear of free web hosting sites. Can anybody help me out with advice on the route I take? We want the site to be along the lines of http://www.thesitesname.com and not http://www.thesitesname.freewebsites.com (thesitesname obviously being the proposed sites name ) Also alot of photos and some videos will be put onto the site so ideally need a fair amount of storage space. Also I will be using Frontpage or Expression Web to design the site so I'd like to be able to upload straight from there pretty much. Cheers for any help
PJ
I use these guys, both for our club site and for personal site and have found the service to be superb after going through bad experiences with three other hosts. Host Gator They offer up cheap reliable hosting packages, unlimited storage, 24/7 support, cpanel access etc etc...

If you decide to build it yourself: I'd go to a web hosting company and register your chosen domain name ("thesitename.com") after checking with nominet/whois that it's available. I've used 1&1 in the past but I'm not sure if they can register/host .com addresses, they can certainly do .co.uk ones. You'll find that .co.uk is cheaper than .com. Frontpage wouldn't be my tool of choice for designing the site (older versions I've used tended to bloat the code with other code, metadata, etc), but it should be up to the job of what you want from it. Frontpage is OK if you're a beginner to HTML and other web technologies.

johnny g
I'm with webhostng uk and they've been ok for me. Find a host who will give you Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress for your site, will make it very easy then for you to get going.
DamanC
co.uk domains are cheap with 123 reg, their hosting isnt the cheapest though but it is UK based.

Attero
I use dynadot for my domains. Very good place, but not sure they are the cheapest. Unfortunately I don't know many hosting sites as I always used to own my own server. Does frontpage have an FTP?

I will check all of the suggested websites out, cheers for the posts. And cheers for any advice still to come

Smallshinyant
http://squarespace.com/ Beautiful interface. Loads of templates, that even a beginner could make look professional. support for CSS and Java script if thats the way you want to go. Built in support for albums, forums. Beautiful iPhone app for posting. This is where i am planning on moving my stuff too. Extra advantage of easily importing and exporting your stuff. so if you don't like them you don't have to start from scratch all over again somewhere else. You can try it out for free for a month to see if you can make something you like.
