What car for 20k?

has anyone ever heard of the DVLA TC11 tax. Apparently, the SVA doesn't include an emmisions test, so only goes on the equivalent UK car for tax banding. The C6 vette is band M (£435) as it was sold through dealers over here.

I suppose something like the Camaro would have to have a TC11 as there's no equivalent UK car which would mean the sub £200 per year tax?

FTW!!

You'd be the king driving that!

If that doesn't convince you nothing else will :D - but I still reckon r34s are over priced as much as I love 'em.

My old Evo 9GT on a 55 plate was only around £180 for a years tax, was registered as a plg somehow, don't know the ins and outs of the loop hole though.

Other than the motors metioned you can get a well equiped evo for around 20k and have abit of change. Some of the 10's are starting to hit the higher end of that now too.

Thats if you like them anyway, for example in '07 (i think) I paid around the 16.5k mark for my 8MR, 18k mark for my 9GT, approx 20k for my evo 7 extreme S (tuned quite a lot) and around 18k for my current 9GT. Hold their money pretty well too considering the first evo 9 I had acouple of years ago are still fetching the same price now.

Other than that the next 2 cars on my list are a r34 gtr and a c6 vette. Rented a vette when I was in the states this year and it was fookin quality :D

Are they the right wheels for the car? look to sit inside the arch a long way? also needs slamming, looks like a 4x4:p

Lol yeah they're the right wheels, but soon will be replaced once i've sorted a few other things out. Not sure why but the Tein suspension was set up like that i.e. up at the front and down at the back? :search: anyway it will be sorted and eventually a set of nismo side skirts and front splitter.

I would go with one of these in black

bottom end of the range @ 20k and i know you said an old car but I think this qualifies as a top and car that i now worth a lot less that new.

I would recommend a C6 buckets of low down torque, 50/50 weight distribution, looks just amazing and quite a rare car still. If you can get a UK spec one. I get to drive one every now and again and it always puts a smile on my face. if you get temped you can easily hit 600 bhp with a blower, which means you have massive torque from tick over to the red line.

Dan, I was thinking about sugguestions but then had to change my opinions.

You already have a fast bike for your speed thrills, how about a luxury car like this which can be picked for cheaper if you don't go for the 6.3L AMG tuned engine, it seats 4 & with some power to boot!:

Something a bit more classy, might make the neighbours green with envy though, cheaper examples avaliable:

I'd personally opt for one of these, which I am tempted to rather than another Supe:

Though to be honest with you, none of these will hope the reliability & power as good Supra, I'd be more inclined to turn your lovely Supra into a big single! You have the perfect base for the project. I am sure you would enjoy it much more. :D

I've pondered this many times. I've come to realisation above £12k, there is nothing really worth it until you get to £30-35k bracket.

Just my opinion. You don't get a whole lot more car for £20k above £12k.

Vipers/360s/F355s/550s/diablos start at £30-35k +

I'd rather sit in the supra/rx7 at £6-12k until I reach the ferrari/lambo level than drive a midrange supercar (which is what I am effectively doing).

This is true. I have been shopping for ages waiting for the perfect TT Supe around 10K, it's never happened. My choices are then 996TT, F355 or V8 Vantage......:(

Its got to be the 996 Turbo, if you can get one for under 20K. Something about that shaped 911 in black. If not a turbo then the C4S, some say the more desirable of the 996 models.

They're great looking, fantastic performance and all while being reliable.

If you can get one for under £20K then sell it on to me please. Cheapest I have ever seen that wasn't Cat C was £24,500.

Cheers Johnny, I might have to bung a lengthy PM Jevansios way asking his opinions of the 996TT.

I know RMS failures can be catastrophic on the 996 engines costing major if they fail, though after repaired, the part fitted was modified to prevent future issues, I'd imagine older 996's will have had this work done already.

RMS wasn't an issue on the Turbo's and GT3 as the engine is a different design. It's the C2 and C4 engines that should be avoided. Stevieboy (not sure if he's still around) used to be a technician for Porker in London and gave me the full lowdown at JAE a couple of years ago.

Dan, why are you using 2001 as a yard stick? You can pick up a 2003 911 TT and the tax is £235.00.

Have a look at Parkers Car Tax Guide on line. I'll get the link..!!
