Never thought I'd say this but Wow! what a Volvo C30 this is.

Yes but the Volvo has the 4WD which I think to RS suffers without

4WD in a short wheelbase like that will mean understeer anyway, so why not take the additional drivetrain losses away and ditch the driven rear wheels, meaning more power on the road? The FRS does what it does very well IMO. The Megane R26.R comes from a similar mindset.

Because front wheel drive, for a sports car, is inherently wrong. Simple as.

I'm not saying 4WD is the perfect solution, thats why I bought a Supra as a track car, but there are enough gizmos available to the manufacturers of today to neutralise any disadvantages to having 4WD without undermining the positives of having the job of traction divided between the four wheels.

Which would then see the RS become a serious contender in the Evo/Impreza catagory. And as they compete in WRC with a car badged as a Focus I don't understand why they aren't required to produce a similar model for homologation anyway as should Citroen.

Equally though, there are enough electronic aids now to eradicate the inherent issues with a FWD car, without having to drive two more wheels.

You should remember too that the FRS isn't actually a sports car per sey. It's a hot hatch, and the best ever hot hatches have been FWD.

Ford already did the whole 4WD rally car thing, long before Subaru and Mitsubishi got their act together. The RS mantra since then has changed though, and now it's all about affordable performance. The FRS has that in spades.

I still wouldn't be seen dead in one though. :)
