jonathanc
I've been recently approached by fdm academy with a very tempting offer. However, I did some basic Googling and found some worrying information. I wonder if anyone here has any experience or know anything about them? Or perhaps point me to somewhere I can seek honest opinions. Thank you.
johnny g
Do not touch FDM. They're the poor man's Accenture. They will work your nuts to the bone, screw you on expenses and generally pimp you for any role they can get you on and class you as an expert then - and bollock you when it goes wrong. Two very good friends of mine worked there and got screwed. Stay well clear.

jonathanc
Sounds like a step up from the shower I'm with, send me some info Hehe u serious? well I tried to Google for FDm con etc and found that there is a single identical post being made across various forums under diff names. sounds like a disgruntled customer to me. I'm 50/50 at the moment but am inclining to decline. I've sent an email asking some very specific information but so far no reply yet. let's see what they say. Edit: if they are really dodgy shouldn't trade standards or something investigate?
johnny g
Ask specifically about: - Training - Working roles (be specific about your field) - Expenses and the service level for reimbursement - Bonuses and clearly defined criteria for achieveing bonus - Policy when you're "on the bench". Get as much specific information as you can.

Sweet deal really but wasn't aware of how the "free" training works prior to Googling.
johnny g
Are they still doing that con?
jonathanc
Are they still doing that con? hmmm? Well I've never heard of them prior to this but seems that their company is linked to some prominent job hunting websites. I was offered an opportunity to work in a major bank in HK for 2 years. The pay increases in the second year to around the 27k region (or so I've been told). Sounds good since they mentioned a starting salary of 20k. JustGav
No such thing as a free lunch... Also enquire as to what the lock in period is.. A few of these places insist on a 3 year contract or you need to pay back the training fee (which is usually something silly)...
johnny g
It's 2 years with FDM, not including your 3 month training/trial period, so, it's a 27 month deal. If you leave before that date, they will invoice you for the training costs, which can in some cases be as high as £20k.

jonathanc
Well. interesting developement! I've got a very detailed reply from the agent at FDM. She explained that I would have to go through a vigorous interview process (one phase is 3 days!) and if I pass all that I would have to meet with the company (a major bank) people to be evaluated by them. Only after the company has given the nod that I would be able to proceed with the training. Interviews are starting this Friday as well.... :S
