Work: Start Time - your understanding of it

In my work the hours vary a lot as I support all time-zones, although my contracted hours are 0900-1730 I do many hours outside of that therefore I am not always there at 0900 or 1730, its all about give and take.

We are asked to be flexible so in return I ask for the same and it works well for us.

I want to work for turtles :( There ninja skills must help keep everyone on there toes. Assassination has always been a big motivator for me.

They're ok as long as you don't lick their arses. Not only is it wrong and unhygenic, they don't suffer fools gladly.

Are you a male escort?

Naturally.

I'm classed as a "contractor" - but as my billable hours are purely dependent on how many victims.. er.. *patients* I see, my start and finish times can vary from my available hours of 8-6.

Generally, I'm in before start and leave after finish times. Also, stated working hours don't include paperwork, such as referral letters and medical reports.

edit: dammit.. voted for the wrong one. I meant to be "in when I'm in etc"

:yeahthat: except i charge a flat fee per day, it's the same whether i see one patient or 20. If paperwork needs doing then i have to do it but, depending on where i'm working and what other staff are there, some places can't let me leave before 5:30 by law if the shop is open still

I do like turtles, but I absolutely love tortoises nowadays.

I've got a funny job in this respect. I get deadlines that I adhere to, but a lot of the time I do the work when I have to, there and then. It means I can juggle a lot into my days, but sometimes work bank holidays and late into the evenings to get things just right. I don't mind at all though, it's just an extension of something I'd be doing regardless, but it's nice to get paid for it.

When I used to work in 9-5 roles I always made sure I was there in enough time to fire up the old PC, ingest caffeine and settle in for the day. Also I'd start to shut things down after I'm meant to finish, but I was the only one who did. Most people treated the job like school - when the bell goes, you sprint off as quickly as possible.

Get there for start time and leave on the dot, happy to be flexible and work on longer/start early but then when i've asked a favour to leave half hour early I got the third degree on how I'd have to make it up....wtf :(

It should work both ways but doesn't, also learnt over the years that you really are just a number and any positive attitude means bugger all come redundancy time so I won't do extra hours to my contracted ones unless I'm paid for it.

Our contracted hours are 8:30 till 17:30.

At the moment I tend to get in around 08:45 and leave around 20:30. I don't think anyone would dare lecture me on arriving 15 minutes late in the morning!

When it get's busy (September till December) we usually work 08:30 till 23:30 Monday - Friday and 08:30 till 18:30 on at least one of the weekend days.

As far as what we get up to during that time, no-one really cares as long as the work gets done, but as we've not won the championship yet, there's plenty more work than there are hours in the day to do.

Naturally, I walk through the doors at 9am spot-on. This is due to the travelling schedule that is made by the local trains, ferries and buses. It works out perfectly for me.

On the other hand, I work from home 3 days of the week. :D In which case, I get out of bed at 9am! :D

Do get paid OT for it?

My average day is 6 to 7 hours including travel as i'm out and about dealing with lovely customers.

When i first joined (4-5 years ago) We all worked until all was done. We used to help the company out alot and get paid well.

But the cheeky gits always up the work load and expect more.

We are all down at least £8k from last year and doing more work.

I expect most companies are like this now as many people are not in the situation to walk out of a job into another.

So no compalining from me as my hours are still short compared to most people and i don't have any breaks.

But i start when i like within reason. 8am to 10am when i leave here.

The company i work for is quite flexible on work hours to some extent. My working hours are generally 8.30-5.00 but I could come in early & finish early or start late & finish late or even make up during lunch break.

Providing you dont take the mick, it works well.

I work flexi time, although it is 'preferred' by management that you are signed in between 09:00 - 17:00.

Since the miserable gits have us on a pay freeze, I start to get ready to leave at 16:57, so I can depart exactly at 17:00! :eyebrows:

I like to set a good example to my 2 assistants! :innocent:

couldnt agree more with this lol!!!

i used to be "1st in, last out" and the bloke who would do any and all extra tasks/hours asked of me (including taking deliveries out to customers out of hours in my own car) but then when the redundancies came about guess who was on the sh*tlist...

so now i start at 8am (and not a second before) and finish at 4:30 (and not a second later) with a 1/2hr lunch :)

Paid from 8:30am til 4:30pm but expected to be on site/address @ 8:15am so I'm unpacked and ready to start work at 8:30am

I usually get to the job anywhere between 8:00am & 8:15am and leave accordingly with site work or when the job is done with a domestic job.

The gripe I have with the company I work for is....

Say I'm working in Manchester (around 3 - 3.5 hours away, I'm still expected to be on site and unpacked ready to start work @ 8:30am then finish @ 4:30pm but with no extra pay (I.E that 3 - 3.5 hr journey is just expected of me, for free!) But if I refuse to travel to that job and there's nothing else local then I get laid off with no pay!

I've always wondered if this is legal...

I'm on time every day, since working there I've watched nearly the whole dept. come in late on a regular basis and rarely make it up. They are never pulled up over it and imho should get up earlier to account for traffic etc., once in a while maybe but they are taking the p*ss.

They shoot off early for some pathetic reasons too and they are quids in as far as hours go...........I'd sack the lot of them tbh :)
