Smallshinyant
I noticed today that at 120Mph (as per speedo) the steering wheel starts to shake. Its controllable but feels pretty harsh. It seems to come in at exactly 120 and as far as i can tell continues but gets no worse as the speed increases. This is of course not a real problem, as these speeds are not legal on the road, but im concerned it might be the sign of something starting to go wrong. What should be first things to check over? The car is a very Stock n/a auto.
Homer
The very basic things to check would be tyre pressures and wheel balance. Next up will be toe and ideally geometry. Is it any different under braking? Does the car pull either way under hard braking?

Smallshinyant
Thanks homer. Sorry i should of put into my first post. I did go check the tyres pressures and then confirm the issue. Wheel balance next then. I would like to change my wheels soon, is the geometry wheel dependant or can I do it on my stock wheels and it still be correct with new bigger wheels? danger_supe
i also experience the shakey steering wheel, but from 70mph. i knew about the wheel balance and have just recently had new tyres put on (a month or two ago) so figured it couldnt be that since the balance was done then. i cant believe i forgot to check tyre pressure tho (!) will check that later on. i have also just had my suspension changed (around same time as new tyres) and the car is now lowered and got a laser alignment done yesterday. i will get a chance to give it a blast tomorrow and see if its still happening at all / as much.... Fitz
....is the geometry wheel dependant or can I do it on my stock wheels and it still be correct with new bigger wheels? AFAIK, the camber/toe etc would be out if changing to bigger wheels or changing suspension etc. Mainly due to offsets, tyre width, profiles etc. But, I could be (and usually am) wrong. danger_supe
yup wheel balance was out on mine even just after having them done a month or two ago! anyways it solved my problem.
gjp
When I had my Calibra my steering wheel started to shake at 70 mph, turned out to be a buckled wheel
