michael parker
Finally got out in a hot air balloon last night, i'd bought a pair of tickets for my fiance' birthday last september though due to the stringent weather conditions, it got cancelled. We booked again and took flight last night, reaching a maximum height of 5900 ft and a speed of 20 mph, we travelled over north yorkshire and the pilot said it was the clearest night he had ever seen with passengers. It lasted for one hour, though you need to allow longer for setting up and packing away. It's a truly remarkable experience of which i thoroughly recommend, go on get your other half something different this year and get up in a balloon! Here are some phots i took... pic 1- Me wearing a daft hat (you need to wear it due to the heat from the burners) helping getting air in to the balloon before take off, using industrial size fans. pic 2- A picture of RAF Linton on ouse (york) and to the right the river Ouse. pic 3- the burner of the hot air balloon (soooo hot!!!) pic 4- passing over the river Ouse i took a pic, resulting in a mirror image of the balloon. will post pics later as they've just come back as too large!! :thumbdown

Chipmunk
Have to agree with a trip in a balloon , quite eerie how silent it is once you're up there until the flamethrower is unleashed, and wow that is some heat. My wife and I had the good fortune of winning a trip for 2 in a hot-air balloon whilst on holiday in Egypt back in 2001. Apart from the 5am start, once you were up and then flew over the Valley of the Kings, the sights and experience of it all soon woke us up. Great experience, just not sure I'd do it again though. Rob
A friend of mine was killed in a hot air balloon in Zimbabwe. No, tell a lie, it was a hippo in a tracksuit.

Nick
I did this in New Zealand, it was a great experience but a bit unnerving. At one point I thought, "I'm a mile above the earth standing in a wicker basket, not sure I like this!!" I love flying but prefer something with an engine... Rob
I did this in New Zealand, it was a great experience but a bit unnerving. At one point I thought, "I'm a mile above the earth standing in a wicker basket, not sure I like this!!" I love flying but prefer something with an engine... I felt like that when I went gliding once. It's only made of 3mm fibreglass and there's no engine and the pilot's a 65 year old man, help.
Jspec Germany
I'm thinking about some day purchasing both. Grew up flying and do it for a living now. Haven't done the balloon thing yet, but I see them a lot here in Germany. Need to hook that up.
