Jurgen-Jm-Imports
we have a local customers car in for some work..(it came in as a non starter) we got it started but his car has a bad missifire at 1500 - 2krpm, were the car wont rev past it and then all of the sudden it goes past 2k freely..to 5k then it drops back down to 2k and violently jerks as you press the go fast pedal. on idle it can sometimes rev freely from 1000 to 6000 but sometimes when it hits 2k it sticks and drops.. but then sometimes it wont rev past 2k ( things we have tested on it and swapped over with working parts -ignitor pack (this was his problem) -new plugs fitted - new coil clips fitted -swapped some fully working coil packs over. -swapped crank and cam sensors over -swapped ecu and throttle ecu over -swapped complete throttle body with TPS sensors on it. spec of car.. auto bpu 94 has been in uk for 6 years. we get error 13 for fault we have looked at ecu cant see any short or bad wires... anybody had similar issues before or any other suggestion as to what we can try- otherwise its remove harness and check all wiring to loom and all sensor- cheers
absz
sounds like one of the cam sensors OR wiring , does the engine start first time or after a couple of revolutions ? you can do a quick resistance test on the sensors to confirm. but i had the same fault with mine with a slight misfire until 2k revs and it a faulty cam sensor. if you have access to scope you can check all sensors from the ecu pins which inturn checks out the wiring aswell Edited May 30, 2010 by absz (see edit history)
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
we swapped cam sensors over to no avail. car starts on first turn no issues.. what do you mean access to scope.. am 100 % sure its some dodgy wiring on the car - who evers had it in past has made a real mess of wiring. hodge
The car has been miss timed, timing belt has stretched or the tensioner isnt working correctly. Im 100% certain thats what it will be. Dont rev it or do anything siilly like drive it on boost until its sorted.
Alex
Crank Position sensor issue according to this... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13920&d=1112558346
hodge
ive just sorted a supra with exactly the same fault and it was the tensioner wasnt tensioning the belt correctly and therefor giving a error code 13. All symptoms point to this.

All symptoms point to this. I agree with hodge. If you've replaced all of the obvious components with known working ones then I'd start looking at the cambelt. I'd check that all 3 pulleys line up with their marks first.
