dangerous brain
I don't think any rational person would disagree that we ALL should pay part of the price for excesses. What concerns me is that it will be those in the middle income brackets that will be hit hardest. They are soft targets, as they have no power, no clout, no influence, no voice, easy pickings. You can bet that those at the higher end will continue to insulate them selves from the pain of the rest of us. Those at the at the top will be protected by the majority part of this new government. I can't wait to stump up an extra £40K of what was to be my pension so that some rich personal(insert own swear word) can keep popping corks on their yacht. The distribution of pain should be equitable, but I don't believe it will be. You are right I saw this coming from a very long way off and decided that actually the best way of weathering this was to spend the lot and keep nothing equitable they could take from me. They cannot take something you haven't got. I don't work 14 hours a day in order to give half of it or more to someone else that doesn't. As there is no middle ground ie you either get fleeced or do the fleecing and I have no intention of being fleeced there is only one other camp left for the next couple of years. I've moved my property ownership oversea's and when it gets really bad I will do the same with my family. This country is on the verge of a sinkhole and its mostly been caused by the ever rampaging housing market and peoples greed. All of the borrowing that took place was courtesy of the value of homes that really aren't worth that money. I am starting to trim my fat now as my current rock star wage contract is careering to its end point. 2 cars have gone and another will be gone soon. My 4 bed detached rental gaff will be swapped out for a flat if I find more work here in a couple of months and life will go on.

Tony
Nope Well you should, because i asume you are not 1 of the 10% of the people in this country who have 90% of the wealth & are just like the rest of us trying to get as much of the 10% that's left before the Tories put a stop to it

jagman
Capitalism needs 3 layers of wealth -if you like lower/ middle/upper-,communism has only 2 layers Upper/lower Both systems need movement between layers to succeed, during a boom in capitalism evrything is rosey, there is movement upwards ,lower to middle, middle to upper, During a bust movement reverses, but it's the middle bit that dictates the rules both ways , for example healthcare. It's the middle bit that causes revolt or uprisings, create innovation, etc to avoid major troubles the middle bit is paramount, and that is the bit now being /,will be hit thus causing too much movement downwards Troubles ahead indeed............ I phone and fingers like pigs tits hence odd writing!!
Lbm
I feel I might invest a pound in tonight's lottery. It's no doubt a tax on the desperate, and on the stupid, and on the greedy - but I believe I qualify. Nice post by the Op.
Whitesupraboy2
-Well you cant have a one way bet , Your situation is now throughout the country; At the ripe old age of 21 You decided to become a speculator, capitalist ,call it what you will , one home wasnt enough ? On someone elses money (banks) you wanted someone else (tennants) to pay towards you having an easier life . So what was needed was the price of houses to ever increase and be paid by the next generation of house buyers ie They would have to pay the £££££ to the bank in order to gain a mortgage in order to pay you. The frenzy of housing ,pumped by the media was always going to end in tears ,coupled with easy credit and a binge the like of which was astounding ! By Binge I mean 3 holidays a year ,second house in Spain, stag nights in Amsterdam,2 or 3 cars ,bikes, jetskis, quads, designer everything,£4 cups of coffee,10k kitchens, nailbars, tanning salons, spa baths,I pods, kids games at £60 a pop - In short the UK people turned into David Beckham !!! All this spending on imported (mostly Chinese ) goods and all with a residual value of Zero and of Zero benefit to the country ,was always going to end in pain The question now, is can we wean ourselves off it ,and take the consequences? - Dell boy was wrong ,this time next year we wont be millionaires Good post, but to put in perspective. The 2nd house im on about I've just exchanged this week so timing couldnt be worse, if I hadnt of found the houseI want to live in, i'd of probably just sold the first place to put with my current deposit. On plus side ive read its up to 50% depending on wage bracket...which brings it back down to the usual 20% (hopefully) so not too bad compared to 18%...if that is the case

Seems an absolutely crazy time to be investing in property, mate. The property boom finished a couple of years ago, no?
