Bovingdon Track/Drag Day Help

OK, so the days booked and im working on the finer details. Now im not sure how many people to expect and what to charge to make up the cost for hireing the airfield and other equipment. What do people think about paying £10 per car to use the drag strip and time track all day, and say £5 per car to just spectate? If people turn up just to watch but then decide to have a go, they just pay an extra £5.

Does this sound reasonable for say 8+ hours of no speed limit fun??

Sounds great James :)

In fact I think anyone who's willing to give their car a good thrashing (or testing ;) ) will be pay a LOT more than £10; I say double or trebble (at least) this figure to bring down the costs for the spectators (maybe they go free?)

Your average rolling road day will cost £40 and thats only for a couple of minutes of someone else flooring your car!!

Count me in for certain :)

James,

I'm not going to be at this one, but £10 for the whole day. Sounds like great value for money. As long as your costs are covered, and you and the venue are indemnified, why not charge a tensy bit more and donate to the MKIV charity? I'm sure that members would be willing to pay £20 to thrash all day and you could raise a bit of cash for the nominated charity.

Well if you think £15 or £20 isn't too bad then that would be better as that should cover costs more. Spectators free is also better, and the rest to a charity sounds very good too.

That's my next thing Terry, do we open it to just the club members, or to club members and friends (not just sups), or selected clubs as well?

I wouldnt have minded paying 20£ + as long as we got exclusive use on the track! I thought that was the bonus! But as I cant make the 14th its not something I have to worry about.

If you end up having other clubs etc, it'd be cool to do comparisons etc and it would make the whole event a little more interesting I guess. Maybe MKIV owners' friends who own Jap motors etc? :) (or other sporty cars like TVRs, porkas etc.. I think the last thing would wanna see a Jap show shoot out with any old crap running along side Jap motors).

Hoping Im not being too obvious here, but make sure you charge enough to cover the event. You will need to pay marshals to deal with the cars, hire the timing gear, pay for hiring the airfield and most importantly you will need indemnity insurance so that if anybody damages the airfield or gets seriously injured or mildly killed you arent dropped in the poo.

The guys that run TOTB say they struggle to make money from the event even with sponsorship and the spectator and competitor fees. I would suggest talking to the guy that runs TSC at Woodbridge to see how he finds running these things, not sure he will discuss it but has to be worth a go.

You will also need to make sure that the local yoof cant get in without paying which means security guards.

Dont forget first aid/safety marshalls too! unless were gonna be living dangerously :D

indeed, it really is worth talking to somebody who has done it before cos theres bound to be stuff we have missed such as catering vans and decent toilet facilities.

Thanks Branners, there is alot that has to be done to get this all working but i think it should all work. Security shouldn't be nessasry as spectators will be free and people who want to use there cars on the track will pay before going past a certain area. Here they will also have to sign a disclaimer form. This is the reason for it being only really open to members as i don't really want too many numbers turning up. Marshalling is something that i've thought about and still thinking. I've got my old dears coming down and hopefully a couple of mates who will help out. Again if it's members only then hopefully people will respect each other and the track etc... Hireing the lights etc is a damn expensive business (£700+), but SteveR is developing a system that we will hopefully use that will be available for future Supra.net events. Im not looking at making money, and did decide that if i had to shell out a hundred or 2 of my own money then i would. But if the Price is increased as discussed then if there is a profit then we shall give this to a named charity.
