DaveN
Following a nice but spirited ride on on my Bike today around Worcester to Bewdley, I almost got squashed between and 3 series and an A4 ! Some dumb arse in a new 7 series leading the traffic, just stopped dead in the middle of the road, waiting for his brain to catch up and tell him what to do next resulting in all the cars following him to emergency stop. I was on my bike 2 cars back and stopped (just) behind the 3 series, BUT the Audi A4 behind me was not so observant, surfice to say that when he stopped (having skidded) he was a foot from my rear wheel. Never have I been so scared of what was about to happen . You can be the best bike rider on the Planet, but its the other's that will get you. I will admitt to absolutly loosing the plot with the elderly gent in the 7 series, but ammusingly the passengers in the car with him had also started on him for being a total liability. He then proceeded to indicate left and turn right across the carriageway and responding to the blowing of horns by flicking the V's to everyone. This was the point I parked up in front of him on a adjacent drive way and vented my anger. I few choise words later left him in no doubt that it was time to hang up his keys and let someone drive. SO ..... Anyone want to buy a 2000-X reg, Suzuki TL1000S in mint condition with a slighly stained seat ??????? I really have returned home thinking about selling it, the experience of today scared me that much.
terribleturner
Yeah i know the feeling mate. I had some t%$t pull accross infront of me just over a year ago that wrote of my bike. Thought i'd never ride again, but 2 weeks later i was on a new toy. Drivers don't have any consideration for bikers what so ever. I get so angry now with cars pulling out on me or even other bikes on the road.
Max Headroom
terribleturner, you have had a brainless car driver pull out in front of you but we are not all the same, I learnt my roadskills on a motorbike (BSA Barracuda) and I now know as a car driver to look out for bikers and I always do. On the other hand as a car driver I have had some t**t on a bike pull out in front of me expecting me to give way, when I had priority. Bit of a 2 way thing, but I realise I have the comfort of a car body round me when I drive a biker doesnt have that luxury. Just my point of view. Max Headroom
Oh sorry DaveN, nice bike
CJ
I would agree with Max. Whilst there are a lot of dipshit car drivers out there - there are also quite a few cretin bikers (present company excpeted) who assume that they have the right of the road and that all cars should give them priority. Steve
That was one of the reasons i sold my bike. Was going flat out every where on it,would have only took some twat to pull out and it would have been game over. Also a friend of mine was killed on his bike. Took the same way to work everyday, this particular day went round a corner and met with a lorry. Since that day have never wanted to ride a bike again. Sorry to be all doom and gloom. terribleturner
I totally agree with you Max. Working in London im plagued with idiot Couriers and the new congestion charge converted moped idiots. I didn't say it was all drivers, but you have to admit that a damn fair few have no idea whats going on around them at the best of times. They may be sat in the wrong lane, not indicating or god knows what but there's a quite a few out there. Bikers do exactly the same, but not as often IMHO. The problem with riding a bike is you feel you can nip in here and there and take advantage of the road over car users, and this is where the mistakes are made. DaveN
All valid reasons to think about the real world longevity of riding the bike. I feel for people who only have a bike as their sole transport. Still feel angry and anoyed when i think about what happened, as i like to think that i am a good rider who does not promote the bad side of weekend sport bikes rider. But on the bike, if you get hit ... you get hit. Anyhoo, hopefully the drivers in question will think about bikes next time there out, doubt it though. JohnA
...I really have returned home thinking about selling it, the experience of today scared me that much. You do risk life an limb being on a bike, surrounded by half-asleep idiotic zombies. Day in, day out, it's a matter of time when something nasty will suddenly threaten your life. That's how it is mate, I've got a LOT of mileage myself on bikes, and have come close to disaster a few times. Never broken a bone, touch wood, but there are no guarantees in this game. It's also a confidence thing: if you now feel that you've lost your 'bottle' I suggest that you either sign up for an 'advanced' course, or sell the bike. An advanced course will boost your confidence and show you how to avoid being in compromising positions in the first place (defensive riding)

Yep on A449 Worcs to Kidderminster Road there have been a few bike related incidents a couple fatal both hitting cars head on whilst nogatiating a corner on the wrong side of the road .
