Draining the Clutch, Draining the Powersteering

Anyone got any guides etc to doing the above? Even a link to the service manual? It's that time of year again :)

I remember a while back there was a guide for the Power Steering (Doesn't work now?) but I don't think I have ever seen anything for the Clutch. Did the gearbox & diff last year so moving onto the clutch and PS this year (along with the brake fluid, engine oil etc).

Only way to swap your clutch fluid mate is by bleeding it through with fresh fluid like you would with brake fluid.

PS, disconnect one of the lines to the cooler and let it drain, switch it from lock to lock with the engine running BUT dont leave it to long so the pump goes totaly dry

There's me thinking you had a clue :D

You know where the fuel filter is right? Well next to that bolted onto the side of the box is the slave cylinder ;) It will have a rubber hose and the hard pipe attatched to it, realy not hard to miss mate just when you do oviously have the pedal depressed, get some clear plastic pipe and bleed it through till you see clean fluid but keep the master cylinder topped up or you will just pull air through it the system and then you will have to bleed it.

  • 1 year later...

I don't recommend it mate, bleeding it was a bit of a pain. There isn't really any need to, have a look at the fluid and make sure it looks ok. If it does I recommend you leave it be and just fill it up if necessary :D

If it looks really dark, murky, crappy then it's time for a change. If it still looks reasonable (yellowish and seethrough) then it's good to go, just give it a topup.

Think of it like your wee, if it's really cloudy you have issues :)

Lol, Cheers, i'll check next time i go to the car :) Also... how do i know what fluid it has in it, ie dot3, dot4?? It has an aftermarket triple plate clutch in that was fitted before i owned the car... Im assuming its not acceptable to mix different fluids
