eBook readers?

Hi all!

I have a bunch of pdf eBooks and also some in MSDoc format. I find reading them on a computer monitor tiring after a few hours.

I recently heard of this thing called an "eBook" readers. I have no experience on this and from simple Google-ing they seem expensive!

I wonder if anyone have any first hand experience on eBooks could offer their opinions?

Are they hard on the eyes? Is it easy to read in bright light? Hows the battery life etc :D

Thanks!

They are basically, the equiv of an ipad :), sometimes referred to as an apad. I've ordered a few for work JUST to annoy the apple zealots who haven't got their ipads yet :)

Well I was thinking of iPad but I heard its rather useless ...

Also looking at Archos 9! Looks promising. For around 500 quid its features are waaaaaaaaaaay better than iPads :p

What do you think of the "apad"s? Seems cheap for what they do. 7" screen though in the one I linked so prolly ipod touch size? would prefer a larger screen...

There is a 10" apad out/coming out soon I believe. Much like the ipad, it is a bigger version of the HTC desire pretty much.

Majority of new phones have a eBook reading facility. What phone do you currently have?

Might be worth having a look at one of these Sony ones. As you mention about eyes getting tired when looking at a monitor you may have the same issues on a smaller bright LCD screen. The sony has one of them older style screens which I presume will make it less straining on the eye. Seen a few people on the tube reading off these which I thought was pretty good.

thanks for all the replies! :D Well, I am currently brushing myself up to apply for a job so have to read loads of technical stuff. I currently do it on my PC screen but my eyes ache after a while (plus you can't take it along with you to read on trains etc). So I wanted some light and portable that can read PDF and perhaps other documents...

Anyway, I stumble upon this

A bit pricey but its basically a whole mini computer weighing only 800g. Also has USB and WiFi so you can have internet on the go (with USB dongle or maybe with BT OpenZone). So tempted! Around £430 + VAT on Scan.

What do you guys think?
