Guest SupraTroopa
I got my Jspec 6 speed TT at 21 and paid £830 fully comp on a classic policy with lancaster. This year (now 22) they said they wont reinsure me due to my age (i assume theyve changed their policy or made a mistake last year?) and now am paying about 930 with admiral fully comp. Guest Nick 10
Ok so ive just done a quick search, found this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201019358707749/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/supra/make/toyota/radius/1501/postcode/fy55ny/page/1/keywords/cruise%20control?logcode=p I think this is a UK model? Its hard to tell between them as most of the TT's listed down mention being imports, is there an easy way to tell between them?
Attero
NA-T is an N/A with a turbo (not a different engine) fitted. NA-TT is an N/A with a twin turbo engine fitted. That Supra on autotrader is a UK TT indeed. The easiest (but cannot trust 100%) way of telling is the bonnet vent AND headlamp washers. The automatics aren't so rare. And the automatic gearbox is incredible on the Supra and considered one of the best ever.
marc_p
Just get a import, your options will be greatly incrased, I started with an N/A import 2/3 years ago when I was 19, I'm now 22 with an import TT 6 speed facelift and paying £900 fully comp(UK car was £700), I've never found them that much more expensive to insure than a UK. However when I was using the Supra as an everday car, the running costs made the insurance seem insignificant.
Supra Gaz
Try Adrian flux, they will sort you out, your quote doesn't just depend on your age and the car, it's your area as well (how much crime is in your post code). It will cost alot of money, but by god is it worth it

The insurance goes up around £100 on average for a manual although the 0-60 does drop to 4.9 which is incredibly fast

I was trying then with Elephant and they wont give me a quote on an import TT, it just says you have to be over 21 to get insured on it because there group 20, a UK TT is group 19. Also, how high/bad are the running costs of a Supra? I hadn't really considered this and I am going to be using it as an everyday car
Attero
A fiver will cover about 17-20 miles. Plus you have maintenance, which ain't cheap.
DanGX
I pay just over £600 for 3rd party fire and theft on my imported NA with Sky. 3 years no claims bonus and aged 27. I have declared my modifications and live in an 'ok' area. The general consensus sounds to be adrian flux or sky. I have heard good things about Bell. The good thing about an import, although you pay higher insurance than a uk spec, you pay less road tax. Loophole FTW
Guest Nick 10
A fiver will cover about 17-20 miles. Plus you have maintenance, which ain't cheap. What kind of MPG can you average? I've got a civic atm so it does require oil changes every 5k and regular services. What kind of price range are the maintenance cost on a supra? Just checked a quote for Import TT Auto and its £2100 :| Couldnt get a price on a maunual
Attero
Adrian Flux it mate. Phone them up to get a real price. Supras go for around 18-20mpg. And with todays petrol prices, that's pretty expensive!

I suppose the headlamp washers are a better way to tell.

And with todays petrol prices, that's pretty expensive! Is that urban or motorway? Yea that is pretty expensive, I get about 35-40 with my EP2 civic atm so that drop would be abit of a shock to me and my wallet. Also, I'm guessing road tax is around the highest band? Guest Nick 10
Every UK TT that I can find has like 120,000 miles on it :| Lowest I could find was 80,000 and that was for 9k!
Attero
You'd be surprised. Road tax on mine is about £104 (or a couple of quid around that somewhere) for 6 months. Same as my old Ford Escort 1.6. 20mpg motorway. 18mpg urban. Although it all depends on how you drive. Alot of people will be getting 15-17mpg out of theirs. DanGX
Yeah, sticking super in the tank comes to about £50 a week for the daily commute.

Dont forget, the UK spec at BEST is a 15 year old car. 10,000 miles per year on average puts them at 150,000. the mileage can and will be high on a UK spec. It is lower on a j-spec normally, but without any actual verification there is no way to know if it is genuine.
marc_p
I only use my Supra as a weekend car(with an occaisional trip to work if the weathers nice) and I still find myself putting £70 a week in it. However a couple of weeks ago was a very heavy week, I went from Harrogate to London and back, Harrogate to Castle Combe and back and then Harrogate to Manchester and back, that was mainly motorway miles and I seemed to empty myself of £500 of petrol (although I did keep getting heavy foot syndrome)
Lee_e
just had my renewal form through from adrian flux .... they want £2400 .. fully comp with £350 excess !!! its around £300 quid MORE that what i paid last year... what a rip off. Im 22 and have 3 years no claims bonus etc, live at work so no need for commuting to work , limited mileage. cancelled the policy straight away as im sorry, but im not paying £2400 for my supra to get driven twice a week. going to give sky a ring a see what they can do
