T2 MSW
Looking for some advice on roll cages. Where have people used what sort of prices quotes experiences really. Spoken to a couple of local places but they are not really filling me with confidence, especially when they don't know simple things like what diameter tube is required for MSA regs car is about ready for the full weld in cage now. Also does anyone know if removable door bars are acceptable as part of msa regulations??

Chris Wilson
I can put you in touch with the people who did my R33 GTR cage, for a comparison quote, but Robinsons are almost certainly cheaper. I needed full FIA certification on my cage and it was the first in the UK, so cost a lot. They are very helpful though and I am very happy with the work, they did a good job. http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/134047-r33-gtr-brand-new-shell-roll-cage-fabrication.html

I saw Paul's car when I was in Enfield last month, and the cage looks impressive. Do you have an approx cost of a full cage Wez Luc

Chris Wilson
It was quite pricey, mainly because I booked it in with Safety Devices without doing my homework fully, which isn't like me at all. I found out AFTER they had had it for a couple of weeks (I told them no rush) that they no longer do fabrication work themselves but farm it out to SHP (Sonny Howard Preparations) a few miles away. So I was paying 2 people, one to invoice the work with a healthy mark up and trailer the shell, the other to do the actual work. Had they told me this initially i would have gone direct, as SHP have an excellent reputaion and i would have been happy for them to do the work. I also wanted seat rails fitting, a bias pedal box and a different column support allowing a more rearwards driving position. In addition I wanted all the needless studs and brackets inside drilling off at the spot welds, and all seam sealer and sound proofing removing inside, and the shell prepping and painting in two pack inside to a decent standard, and all bulkhead holes blanking with thin steel discs. I also wanted air jack mounts (tubes) making and fitting, which is a fiddly job to do nicely, but having 4 air jacks it seemed rude not to use them This stuff mounts up, so the bill was about 5K all in. Going direct I reckon it would have been at least 1k cheaper I would guess... It is a lovely job, and Sonny Howard was very amenable and helpful. I went for maximum rigidity and safety rather than low weight, you could delete quite a few tubes and still have a good basic cage. They are at http://www.shpengineering.co.uk/about-us.phtml If you are into MKI Ford Escorts but can't raise the 50K a good race car now fetches Sonny makes this stunning space frame version, which I thought was just so lovely I had to be dragged away by `er indoors. http://www.shpengineering.co.uk/retro-gallery.phtml

T2 MSW
Thats what im worried about, going to need to get these seats as low as possible Going to have a go at making the frames up in a couple of weeks
