What is a reasonable holding deposit?

Percentage-wise of a car sell value, what is a resonable holding deposit?

Ive had a chap called Thomas from Germany making me an offer on my advertised car but he wants me to hold it for him untill June.

Good luck dude, 5% non returnable deposit sounds good in case the sale falls through.

I would always be willing to put up 10% when buying. £500 on a car of £5000 shows you're a serious buyer. 2% is only £100 on £5000, more likely they'll change their mind.
