heartworm
BBC News ome information packs have been scrapped to make it cheaper to sell a house, not sure how it works in England but the home report in Scotland makes it much easier to buy a house. Certainly having just bought a house, and having looked at a few before a purchase it was good to get all the details on a house without having to spend a fortune to find out what was wrong with it first. Seemed like a good idea from a buyers perspective, and most of the time you are selling you are buying elsewhere, surely it cancels itself out for the seller too as they don't need to get one done for the house they are interested in? Wez
They were another labour stealth tax so all good in my eyes.
stevie_b
Common consensus says that English HIPs weren't worth the paper they were written on. They were just another compulsory hoop to jump through.
heartworm
As I said I know very little about the HIP, I thought it was similar to the Scottish home report though.

[quote name= Mike Ockenden Association of Home Information Pack Providers]We think it would be crazy to throw the baby out with the bathwater and remove at a stroke all the good things that have come about with Hips

AndrewOW
Thank frakking goodness for that! What a completely waste of time and money IMO. So, that's one good thing this new government have done, now what's next? Lowering of fuel prices?
Ark
the scots have the right idea about several home buying issues, like contract exchange being forced to continue to completion. removes the problem of gazumping.
AndrewOW
Yes, if we can adopt the Scotch way of selling a house, then that would be a far better solution.
jagman
Yes, if we can adopt the Scotch way of selling a house, then that would be a far better solution. Does that involve going for a drink?
AndrewOW
Yes, make it a double! Especially now I wouldn't have to pay out for the ridiculous HIPs!

AndrewOW
I didn't even look at the on I got on my house. Nope, nor did I. Just had to have one, and the prospective buyers weren't interested in it either. What a waste of £600 Luckily, I'm not selling any more, so won't have to think about it. Snooze
Yep - glad these are gone. Total junk - very little useful information on them and what was there could be up to a year out of date. Never seen a sensible buyer who didn't go and get a proper survey done anyway.
edinlexusV8
we recently bought a flat aswell and having a home report to hand for every property we were interested in was very helpful. Hope they dont scrap this in Scotland!

Never seen a sensible buyer who didn't go and get a proper survey done anyway. You still had to have a survey done - well if you were buying with a mortgage that is. HIPs were a total waste of time and money. If the searches were out of date then indemnity insurance was used and that was worth absolutely nothing!
