Kirk
I know this has been done to death but im after a second opinion on this one I carried out a manual conversion a few months back on my NA and fitted an ACT HD clutch and the bite is literaly centimetres from the bottom of the pedal. You can here the release bearing slightly grinding aswel, dont know if it will of been caused by the same issue? Anyway theres a fair bit of free play in the pedal which i thought was air, theres probly a little bit in there still so im going to bleed it again but im now thinking the pedal wants adjusting?? The actual position of the clutch pedal is noticably lower than the brake pedal, am i right in saying they should be roughly the same height? Also another quicky, ive filled the system with dot 4 motul RBF600 as i ran out of clutch fluid and been needing to pick some more up. Should be alright shouldnt it? Cheers guys
Chris Wilson
Fluid is fine, pedal actuation right at the bottom is an issue, taking up free play to gain extra movement is bad. You need a bigger diameter master, or a smaller diameter slave, UNLESS this clutch expects, and hasn't got, a different diameter release bearing to the norm. Strictly speaking the clutch is incorrect if you need to mess with cylinder bore sizes though.
Kirk
Hmmm, spoke to act today and the part number is correct to a w58 so. The pedal feel is a bit like a sponge till about half pedal pressure then its firms up, almost like badly bled brakes. Think ill give it another bleed and see what's what, pretty sure there's a fair bit of air left in it. Just don't understand why the bite is so low
pedrosixfour
Could it be fitted arseways or a problem with the flywheel? I'm not doubting your capabilities mate, just thought I'd throw it out there!
Chris Wilson
If you have a pressure or vacuum bleeder, try that.
Kirk
Could it be fitted arseways or a problem with the flywheel? I'm not doubting your capabilities mate, just thought I'd throw it out there! I do this on a daily basis for a job so sadly not this time Flywheel is fine, cleaned it all up before it went in. I thought maybe the release bearing was to blame as it was different to the original in there but the box wouldnt fit on with the original release bearing as it had a raised inner race where as the one that came with the clutch was flat. I dont know whether this is because its a HD pressure plate but something aint right at the minute. The other difference was the spring retainer was the wrong type so i reused the old one, cant see it being an issue realy

Kirk
Right i cant get anymore air out of the system manualy. The pedal is still going past half way without meeting any resistance so im going to vac it when i get it trailered home as now its overheating like a bitch! Thermostat doesnt seem to be opening or it airlocked to fuke!
Kirk
Ok ive been thinking about the release bearing. With the stock one having a raised face and the new one being flat wouldnt that make the pedal travel longer to disengage the clutch?
