I think your being a little optimistic with that Chris...." a tidy one for £3500?....maybe a tatty one for £3500, but more like £4500 for a tatty one.

Chris has been saying you can buy concours TT manuals for this money since 2001 :)

Forget BHP figures, it's TORQUE that kills transmissions. Heat and torque. There are fewer clutch plates in an N/A auto and they slip. As for the "uprated" ones, God knows, possibly the sprag clutch, the plate material, and the line pressure. If you want to do a serious single get a manual TT box or something aftermarket.

Sadly it's often the car someone has paid a fortune for that's a dog ( I recall a hugely expensive and allegedly ultra low mileage one that looked like it had been down a motorway barrier at 150, before being clocked three times and a pint of two stroke oil added to the petrol for that ) and a couple of real cheap ones that were superb in all respects and totally genuine. I have to say 8all8 owners clubs tend to have a rather *idealised* idea on values, it's the same with RX-7's, Skylines, FTO's, et cetera. It's always been that way :)
