Robzki
I have 'sold' a camera on ebay 4 times now, 3 times it has been bought by people who have stolen other peoples accounts. last one was very convincing, apart from the fact that the 'buyer' wanted me to send it to his mate in Manchester because he had forgotten his birthday. left it 24hrs to check, lo and behold ebay emailed me to tell me not to send as it was a scam. The first two were less convincing, broken english etc Now it has sold again. to a genuine buyer that has messaged me 5mins after the auction to ask if £80 is ok. The winning bid was £120. Now I'm concerned that an auto feed screwdriver and an outboard on there is going to cause the same problems. If I bid on ebay I pay immediately and have never had problems. considering never listing again. Why don't ebay tighten things up and come down on these ar$eholes in a big way. with the experience I've had there must be loads of people with some good stuff to sell but don't want the hassle. Rant over....for now
BazzaAlpine
I'm worried as my Sister has just listed her car on there and she has no idea about things like this. I've told her to be careful and what to look out for but these creeps are betting harder to spot. You're right. Ebay and paypal need to really get their act together. Robzki
My dad is the same as your sister it seems, he is naive at best. Can't tell him tho' He has just sold his goldwing in parts and spent 2 days delivering it all over the country from literally the outer hebrides to cornwal!! without charging most of them for delivery as he said they were a bit short of money as long as hes happy I spose Doubtful they will act as long as they are making a fortune with no real competition. supra_aero
Can't believe people still use ebay. Full of thieves. Not worth the 5-10% saving anymore - just use amazon.
Robzki
When I said that my dad is the same as your sister I didn't mean it in a bad way, I very much doubt anyone is as bad as the old git.

Never had a problem with buying tbh. Always got what I needed at a good price. Recently it seems full of cheap tat(since they dropped the listing fees for items under 99p
supra_aero
I have had tons of trouble. Always had my money back bar 'one time' but its not worth the headache now. Too many inconsiderate bast@rds in the world of ebay.

jk136
When the Xbox 360 first came out, I managed to get hold of one of the first in the local Tesco. Then looking on ebay that evening realised I could make a hefty profit on it (before anyone complains, Ive never done it before, and wont be doing it again!) Anyway, listed the item and within 20 mins had a msg from someone reasonably local, who would pay by it now of £450 and collect straight away! So I agree and give him the address to pick up and also check my paypal...it all goes through. Well just to be on the safe side, I told my missus, that when he shows up, write down his number plate - just in case its dodgy. The guy shows up...bit chavvy looking, but leaves his car running outside the house. Comes to the door, grabs the Xbox, then asks where the petrol station is as he needs to go back to Broadstairs then he is gone! So I shout to the missus about the plate, but she only got a partial view of it. I go to bed happy that Ive just made a tidy profit... so I thought! Next day I get up, check my email, and have a msg from paypal saying the money was being held....cut a long story short, he hacked his mates account, and bought it with his credit card! So now Im out of pocket by £300 and the feller is nowhere to be seen! Suddenly I recall his comment about the petrol station, so head off to the one up the road and ask to see their CCTV footage....BINGO!! Hes on there with his Puma with the partial plate I had written down. The old bill are called, they arrest him and he get 5 months for theft and fraud! The little scrote!! But the one gripe I have is that Paypal wash their hands of everything, just saying read the small print. To be honest Ive been done a few times on there now, 4-5 maybe, and they have all been legit transaction, but not on one occasion have I had my money back through the Paypal scheme! Just seems a bit of a joke now to be honest...to the point where Ive deleted my paypal account. If I want it, its cash when I collect something! Or use my brother account.... stevie_b
Can't believe people still use ebay. Full of thieves. Not worth the 5-10% saving anymore - just use amazon. The problem is it's quite hard to unseat the de-facto standard auction website (in this case eBay). It's a vicious circle, as I'm sure you know: buyers go where the most sellers are, and sellers will sell where there are the most buyers. Once a single auction site gets a large percentage of the online auction business then most people (myself included) don't go anywhere else. I may check out Amazon auctions though: TBH I didn't realise they had auctions.

supra_aero
They don't do auctions. Not that I know of anyway. But you can still sell your items on there at fixed price etc. Sorry for confusion
creative
would never sell on ebay. tried a few times and always had problems. I only ever buy on there but will only spend what i'm willing to lose... and that isnt much!
The-Plethora
I would never sell any more on there as the seller is wide open to getting screwed over and you cant even feedback about it. I have 100% positive feedback and have probably bought and sold over 100 things. Only 2 times have I had trouble... One was for selling Final Fantasy 7 and 8 on playstation where I was told the money had been sent and could I send it now. After a while he admitted he never sent it. I think it was a young kid but I was tempted to send a letter to his parent the little c*nt. Second time i sold a laptop and even before I had payment I knew I was going to have trouble as he only had a 'solo' card. The laptop had an intermittant backlight problem which I detailed in the ad and he mailed to say it had an intermittant backlight problem, hmmm. Called me a scammer also. He threatened to report me to ebay and everything but this was after he left me with positive feedback so I said if he did I would drop him a neg. (cant even leave negs now). I have a few rules when buying. 1. Always check feedback for previous sales 2. Check feedback was not all received on the same day 3. ALWAYS check if it is the actual picture of the item you are bidding on and not some generic stock photo from the web. 4. Try to avoid paypal in any way possible
supra_aero
The plethora I could have fixed your laptop very cheaply (less than £15). I guess its long gone now
stevie_b
I agree that eBay really stacks things against the seller. I get the impression that people complained about sellers mis-selling things, so in a knee-jerk reaction they brought in some draconian measures like the inability to leave buyers negative feedback. How that helps anything I really don't know. It's unfortunate that if you want to auction your stuff online, there's only one show in town. Other sites simply don't get enough footfall to make it worthwhile listing things on them.
supra_aero
Use gumtree or amazon for selling. Though you get time wasters on gumtree, but at least they pick up when you tell them you'll be home and pay cash with no silly listing fees and nonsense (irony is gumtree is owned by ebay - lol). Robzki
Well I'll take back part of what I said in the first post, as I have now received a message saying the payment will be sent weds AM. we'll see how that pans out.
The-Plethora
The plethora I could have fixed your laptop very cheaply (less than £15). I guess its long gone now Heh heh, it had something damaged on it when I bought it second hand, it took me about 5 minutes to get that fixed. I paid £10 for it and sold it for £190 odd I seem to recall, not a bad profit. This was going back to 2003 though. Every so often I hear murmerings of google auctions but it never seems to come to anything. That would be amazing! or do google own ebay these days or something?
